On a whim, the family and I drove up here from Texas yesterday. A friend of mine back in Texas grew up around here and said it used to be good so we decided to try it out. Spent all day out and saw one pheasant flush way out ahead of us. Any tips for the area? I've got a three year old bird dog and ...

In pretty much any decision in life, it's almost never a good idea to base it off how much money you already have invested. Those are sunk costs. Going against your gut because of sunk costs is a pretty good way to throw away even more money.

Buy a Sylmar vest. My father has several of Sylmar vests for his brittanies and loves them. He always tells me they are great when it's cold, if it's warm out the dogs get too hot wearing them. I have one and they are ok but the vest itself rubs his arm pits raw. Also sage brush still tore his bell...

Hi. So, I goofed up today. I ordered a couple walky dog bike leashes so we could bike our dogs and they came in a few days ago. Today we got them out on them. They are pretty sweet and the dogs loved them! This is where I may have messed up though. My lab is only 6 months old. We didn't have a plan ...

I am familiar with the Garmin Delta. The one I had worked ok in the yard when the dog was less excited, less occupied, and less hard headed. However in the field, it was useless. It did not have a high enough setting for the stimulus to effect the dog. I tried it on two different dogs, both differe...

Also she's super smart, just has a one track mind. I can say beside and she sits beside me on the left and she's about 50% on not breaking until I tell her fetch. I have her drag a lead and I step on it before I throw the dummy so she feels it if she breaks. This is all just play training by a newbi...

Thanks for the reply. I feel like we've set ourselves up for this because, since she loves to retrieve so much, we will work her trying to wear her out (which it doesn't) and I think she now just associates us with playing fetch. Basically I think we've unintentionally taught her that if she's aroun...

I've seen this mentioned a lot with reputable breeders; they say they will take a dog back if your circumstances change and you can't keep it for whatever reason. Also, when we see posts where someone is saying their dog isn't what they were hoping for or posts where someone is looking to sell their...

Agree with not yelping. I watched my grown vizsla growl/bark LOUD one time when we first brought our lab pup home cuz she got too rough with the biting. How much did you expect to pay? That's what we pay as well for decent pants. If you want to go cheaper, get chaps. But whatever you get, remember, you get what you pay for. High quality and cheap don't belong in the same sentence, especially in upland gear. Elitist? My columbia pants were like $30 ...

Anyone ever paid a lot of money for a high prize puppy that just turned out to be super ugly?
We got a lab pup out of Texas Troubadour that has amazing drive, etc. but "bleep" she's ugly. She's 18 weeks old now. We have literally had people ask what kind of mix she is.
