Is there many ravens in bobwhite country?? Researchers have determined they play a part in sage grouse populations being down. Can't comment on the hunting opportunities w/respect to access however there are birds there (Quail) so a bit of diligence should provide the answer - California & Nevada share the view of the lake. I think the Chukar mecca is w/in driving distance for all day excursions.

Whoa in an obedience situation..this is why semantics and getting hung up on the exact phrase "whoa" is just foolish and a waste of time. In the case you use whoa to stop your dog from a creep or if he is rearing back ready to lunge...if your dog has been taught whoa effectively - you don't even nee...

I hunt 40+ days a year, my dogs are trained to be steady to flush, break at shot. Occasionally depending on the dog, they will break at flush. Never, ever, have I seen a situation even remotely close to causing harm to a dog. I easily see 200-350 productive pieces of bird work a year, maybe ya'll a...

Just my opinion, I think it is better to train to the highest standard ( steady to shot and fall ) then if you want let them backslide to shot if wanted, than never to have trained for the shot and fall. Keep in mind that I have been hunting Pheasants primarily w/my shorthair. Without a doubt we are more succesful (for better or worse) when my dog is not 100%. That is not to say that he doesn't need to throttle it back at times (which is another story) & I don't ever quit working toward the end game...

I will admit that I have not read through every post so if this is already covered.. One of the big mistakes that I think should be avoided is the "trap" Assuming that you are also kenneling the dog (which is also training) Puppy's are great..we all know that but in the real world puppy's are a pain...

...taken just this a.m. in PA Not a busy road - this is public land comprised of about 1200 acres - the area is not typical of the primary cover but this is reality going from one area to the next in PA. Point taken and I can't say that I've saved all of my dogs lives because they were taught to plant feet - that said, luck plays a part in that and amount of time spent in the field skews the percentages - I'm sure glad my dog knows it. You are by all means in the best position to know what will keep...

It can be a problem and can go beyond just red balls. My male actually lost his sperm count. I dont breed him in the winter now and I restrict how cold I hunt w=him when I have a bitch in for breeding. I have also modified some dog britches to help keep them warm and toasty.
