you can control where the dog hits the scent cone. It only took a bird or two and Sophie started holding point about 5-10 feet away. Be sure to know where the launcher is located (my DT sys launchers have beepers). Be sure the safety pin is removed and as Casper said, make sure it is charged. Once s...

Vizslas
Hello to all,
It is my hope that others will post their pictures and stories of the beautiful vizsla here. I just can't get enough of them
here is a quirky but neat link with some vizsla cards and signs. I like the "you are here" one the best.

never have I seen a training book that says anything about leash biting, which is silly as it is the fist thing you will see when you hook a leash on pup. The leash is the point of contact for training and leash biting is a rebelious act. You have to have some sessions where all you do is work on no...

always places to go and NY has more woods than city. take her in a field with short grass and let her run and have fun. Learn to read her and she'll let you know when she is ready for things. My vizsla seems to mature a bit slower than average, but she is becoming a fine dog as we play (and now work...

a little off topic and I apologize. I bought a SportDog 1850 (it will be a while before I use it) and I just wanted to say that the small training booklet that comes with it written by Charlie Jurney (with Tim Dokken and Rick Smith) is probably one of the best training pieces I have ever read. It is...

Hi, good luck with the pup. Bitter Apple does not last very long, so I don't apply it until I see pup wanting to chew an area. I didn't have to use it much as pup did not seem to be a furniture chewer. A water squirt bottle works better for things like that anyhow. A droplet or two is all that is ne...

Hello to all,
do E-collars use different frequencies to keep one transmitter from correcting other dogs?

vaccination question
I will talk to my vet this week, but I thought I would pose a question here for some info (my vet seems to get a kick out of me asking him about specific items I research first). I've recently learned about Leptospira and I note the following vaccinations are not completed yet on my pups record... L...

I've always thought of Bobwhite quail as my favorite gamebird, but the WC is now moving into the top spot with each one Sophie and I find this spring. I've been seeing and finding them in pairs. 6 birds so far. I get to work days this week, so I hope to see their evening mating flights too. I've rea...

report that SOB. You were 100% in the right and ^%#%! was totally wrong. People that are more stupid than dogs should not be allowed to own them. TV show was on last night of a similar thing. If you defend yourself from his 'death threat', you will go to jail for a long time. Can't win. best of luck...

I too see this when out in the field. She'll be fine and listening and then she just take off for a bit. I can't enforce, so I wait it out and she comes in for a clenched toothed "good dog". She knows the command, but chooses not to 'hear' it. I've never been an E-collar person, but it seems as this...

Hydrating in the field
Through spending time with Sophie, reading books and reading here I learn things as I go. On our runs, I see that Sophie won't drink water I put out for her early on (although she drinks it up later as we come in). I've read of the importance of hydrating early on to keep a dog cool and help prevent...
