Having success with obedience class
Bentley has been in obedience class at Petsmart for two weeks now and I'm really happy we did this. He had never had a collar on even and I've gotten him loose leash walking trained now where he is manageable. And now he JUMPS into the backseat of my truck, that's cool because before i had to hoist ...

Re: Took Bentley to Petsmart for obedience class
and the gentle leader is great for it. Works quickly and well. Amen! Like I said in my introduction, I'm not a hunter..but I certainly encourage it. But I enjoy working with dogs. Within one minute, Bentley was a different animal. Which made a different relationship for he and I. Even on a regular ...

Re: Took Bentley to Petsmart for obedience class
I wondered if this was something I'd have to do forever with him. Actually, it seems already that just having the harness around his nose makes him more obedient. I accidentally clipped the leash to the old collar, like you said, yesterday (didn't notice till take it off) and he behaved as if it wer...

Took Bentley to Petsmart for obedience class
Bentley, my 3 year GR that I took in about 2 months ago, was and still is a pretty big handful as far as obedience and even leash walking. He had never had a collar on before I got him, so he has no idea of what to do or how to act. Even though I can collar him easily now, he still pulled and yanked...

Re: Help with obedience training a rehome Golden
Took him to a park today and that went pretty good. He abides by that collar pretty easily now. It'll be good to get him socialized more. Biggest problem now is getting him to get IN the back seat of the truck. I have to hoist his 85 lb body, which I can, but really...hoping soon he'll get condition...

Help with obedience training a rehome Golden
Hi, I have this GR I took in. He's nearly 3, before here he's been kept in a 4 foot fenced back yard. He's 85 lbs and a big GR. He can EASILY scale that 4 foot fence which he did and roamed around loving on all of the neighbors and messing with their stuff. He's never been leash/collar trained. He's...

Re: Invisible Fence help needed.
Thanks man. So, what kind of equipment would you recommend? I was planning on going to Lowes or Home Depot and check em out. Petsmart too I guess. Are they all the same? What do I need to look for in the setup/equipment? Another question: It has to be one big continuous loop to work, right? no break...

Invisible Fence help needed.
I'm wanting to put an invisible fence in. live in the middle of 18 acres and could feasibly put a lot of fencing down. But, I'm not sure, for training..that's a good thing. maybe just the yard? That's probably about 3/4 acre. But, I'd like to take him down to the barn too...and that's outside the ya...

Ok, well, then thankee. About me: I'm 50. Married 30 years, 2 kids 16 and 19 (in nursing school) I really enjoy dogs, working with dogs and training them. Even though I don't hunt, I support that sport and wished more hunting, deer especially, was done. I own 18 acres covered in deer. My daughter and...

Hi, I keep my Golden Retriever outside and because of that have been beat up on another forum. I enjoy dog training a lot. I enjoy dogs as a whole. My wife and I have a small house dog only, well, with two teenagers. lol. Although I don't hunt, I do support hunting and wished there were more. Kill t...
