Thanks for the recipe! My wife loved it as well! I had already tossed the gizzards, but I will give it a try next time.

First Grouse

Hey everyone. I just got back from my first grouse hunt and ended up with three in the bag. It has been a LONG time since I had grouse and I want to know the best way to cook it. I dressed them by pulling the legs and head through the body.

Re: Training a 5 year old GSP

Start from scratch, proper bird intro , then build prey drive by letting the dog chase and catch pigeons. If the dog will aggressively chase clipped wing pigeons then you have something to work with. Once the dog is chasing hard do proper gun intro, wich when done properly will build a positive ass...

Training a 5 year old GSP

Hey everyone. I have a friend with a 5 year old GSP. He always had aspirations of training the dog to hunt, but the dog is older now and he thinks it's too late. I train with my dog on his property and his dog is always out running with mine mainly to use as a distraction. She doesn't know how to fi...

Re: Bird Storage Question

I am experiencing the same situation. I was thinking about storing them at my buddies farm where I train the dog just because I am paranoid, but I haven't asked him if I could keep them there yet. I am using pheasants. Nobody thinks that seeing and smelling the birds everyday will weaken his drive?

Re: Punishment for humping

He has stopped humping the people that he sees on a regular basis, but when a guest enters the house and they pet him it's on... So I have been using the crap out of the e-collar and it seems to be working effectively. A bump and leave it and he's done with it. I see it all ending soon. Thank...

Re: Baby "Happy Timing"

Good looking pup. I learned that the dog doesn't want to leave you at that age. Just keep your work with calling going with a check chord and plenty of pats and "good dogs". I'm sure that all dogs are different, but my 1 year old doesn't want to leave my side. By the time your dog does desire to wan...

Pup's first hunt test

[/attachment] Pupsfirstribbon.jpg My nearly 1 year old Brittany male Cooper ran his first hunt test last weekend. The first day he bumped the bird and did not score. The second day it looked like he had everything figured out. He ran really well, even though it was 80 degrees outside, and found a bi...

Re: Punishment for humping

I knew this would produce some interesting replies... I appreciate everyones input. I tell him "No" and he knows I mean it, but I think my wife is too nice to him even when she's mad. Sounds like I need to train the wife to train the dog... :?

Punishment for humping

My 9 month old male britt is now becoming a humper. How can I/should I punish him for doing it. He really doesn't try it with me too often but my wife is annoyed and that means I am too. Thanks for the help.

I chose a Brittany because of the size, personality, and good looks. My family had Labs growing up so if I had to pick my favorite retriever it would be a lab. :D

I'm in the market for a 20ga o/u I have to admit under six pounds, looks to kill, and I price that isn't too crazy? I'm listening. What is Franchi's reputation for quality? This just might be my gun.

I find this information to be very helpful to me as well. I am just having trouble finding birds in my area. I am thinking about heading to Seattle's Chinatown back ally with my salmon net to do some "research" lol.

Hey Ezzy I appreciate the great response. The work I am doing with him now is in the field by my house there aren't any birds involved. A little update on today's training. I turned the e-collar down to 6 and used the check chord. "Here" was doing well. Walking zig zags through the field. However, when the work was done and I was getting ready to leave he found a plastic bottle and he was gone his e-collar was off and the check chor...

Re: E-Collar Problems

Robert you are talking about trying a lower level of stimulation with the e collar. How did you pick the level of stimulation that you have used? I don't know how others do it but I personally use the lowest level of stimulation the dog will acknowledge. If I need to I can always turn up the stimul...

Re: E-Collar Problems

He was started with a check chord. I would prefer not to have the invisible fence, but it's the only practical option in my situation. I'm just afraid I may have made a mess of training by using one. I was just hoping to find someone else who may have experienced the same problem.

Trainers In PNW

Hello All! I am new to this forum and to be honest new to owning a dog, training a dog, and hunting with dogs. My dad was always bird hunting when I was growing up, but after his last dog passed he quit before I was interested in hunting. Now I have decided to go for it. I recently picked up my now ...
