Re: conibear traps
Ezzy, This is wrong. Throw a meatball at a dog, especially a hungr dog, he will take the food most times, even when trained. I have a good friend that (with his training partner and Schutzhund Worlds Competitor over 3 decades-Only American) personally developed/invented/used the Dual K9 dog ie a tr...

Ezzy, I have a good friend that (with his training partner and Schutzhund Worlds Competitor over 3 decades) personally developed the Dual K9 concept dog ie a trained for Both apprehension/patrol AND Drugs. They trained perhaps thousands of K9s and personal protection dogs. He told me in No Uncertain...

Re: conibear traps
What IF DNR structured trapping season AFTER the Upland Season closed or last week of it?
Pelts would also be prime, and then let trapping season begin.
Seems sensible to me.

Re: Field Cockers
I really like these little cockers and was thinking of getting one some time down the road.
My wife, an ER nurse, just treated a patient that took in a stray cocker, and is now missing the tip of her nose.
That might be a hard sell to the wife now.

Re: Gotta Vent!
threatening a child is NOT how to deal with this. A stern talking to should be in order but dont threaten him or you will be in jail. Nowhere did I say to threaten the kid. I would make just him a promise, that if any member of your family is ever harmed, including your animals, that he leaves in a...

1. Glad your dog is ok. Couldve been worse. Much worse. 2. BBs are NOT play toys- mine will penetrate 2x4s and has killed squirrels soundly, with GAMO Pellets. Video of it here, in my locale, Air Guns are considered firearms. Not toys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pgm02hS6N_U 3. Inform police and ...

Re: Wirehair Coats Pics
Real nice dog!! My only issue(s) with DDs are that they are smarter than most kids, 1 person dogs, and most are just too smart. Mine is also a terrible counter thief. Id advise any to really not to look at this breed if you dont hunt at least 30Xs per year. Hunting is their being, and if theyre not ...

Re: Wirehair Coats Pics
The DD dog pictured by the other poster has a nice coat, save the head feathering, so with dogs like that around hunt season, I usually trim (with scissors) the feathering on the head, legs etc dog is then bur free. Of course, the old timers say never to cut, but they dont hunt my dogs and I hate bi...

Re: Pad Injury
I like and carry EMT gel.
But For feet injuries, your vet may or may not recommened it...
Keep it clean and aired. And rest it.
You might be back in 1-3 weeks with good rest.
They usually wont stitch pads either. Just rest thats it, been there, done that.
Good luck

no...I want a dog to react to a problem not make one with the local girl scouts selling cookies....... Ive never had a dog (All Protection Trained) ever make problems with Girl scouts. Nor do others I know and train with. Good training and good genetics and some common sense go along way. That said...

I live right next to the suisun marsh. It is brackish dirty water with duck clubs and wildlife areas. I have had numerous Browning A5 come in with problems and have asked them when the last time they cleaned them. Several had been over 20 years. The duck hunters out here love them. i could easily u...

sorry to somewhat hijack this tread but wanting to keep the dog house warm i put some old padded carpet in the house is this better than the hay? Carpet and carpet pad are dangerous. Dogs chew and eat it then can get balled up in their intenstines. Yep, I just use old Pizza boxes as a liner..take o...

I just don't like a dog that treats everyone who rides up or knocks on the door as a threat, even if its only initially. To each their own I guess on that one..... I do, I take my personal safety, and that of my family, very seriously. We all carry concealed as well. All the time, 24/7 A victim, I ...

Re: Best Hunting Dog? (Opinions)
Great Question.... 1. But Are we talking strictly upland Wild Birds, and if so, which birds? OR 2. Mixed bag hunting- ie many upland species + bunnies, ducks, waterfowl- jump shot or blind hunting OR 3. The hole ball of wax, ie including tracking deer, baying hogs, taking on nest raiding vermin too ...

Re: gsp wont retrive
Force Fetch will solve this. Recommend a Pro or expeienced dog guy. NAVHDA is a great place for this. You can also work positively and command 'HOLD' then 'drop' and reward with treats. Its not force but very low strees, and may work for what you want it to. Slowly increase hold times and graduate t...
