Re: Dog energy
Tekos is spot on. In addition to using a GLYCOGEN replacement product, you should be feeding a top quality dog food (I use Purina ProPlan). Supplements ocntaining all of the ingredients normally associated with human metabolism are not only unnecessary they may be counter productive in dogs. Canine ...

Re: Dog energy
Take a look at K-9 Energy Edge (k9energy edge.com). EE is a maltodextrin based product developed by DMV Angie Untisz. Dr. Untisz developed the product to keep her herding dogs from losing their competitive edge (both energy and metal acuity) during a long day of competition. She mainly relied on ext...

Open Shooting Dog - No dogs around clean with birds. Championships with held and stake converted to a "Classic". 1st place Diamond/Moen, 2nd place Ace/Larrondo, 3rd place Winnie/DiMambro. Bird numbers are pretty low this year and the last stake (OSD) of the trial suffered badly with the few birds ha...

I have a couple of friends using the Tek 1 with satisfactory results. I have been using a Tek 2 for about a year and find it to be a great improvement over the Tek 1 - easier to navigate and way easier to read the screen in bright light. I used a Garmin 220 and 320 prior to the Tek 2. I like the Tek...

Friday, March 6, 2015. After losing all of yesterday due to ice and snow making conditions too dangerous to run, today dawned clear and sunny! We finished 6 braces and should finish the National Shooting Dog Championship tomorrow (5 braces still to go). It has been a tough slog contending with the w...

Brace 7 broke away at 8:00 AM. Temps were and continue to be in the mid-twentys. Braces 8 & 9 each had a scratch and the Judges elected to run the two remaining dogs in the second morning brace. Bird finding was tough with scouts reporting the birds holding tight in heavy cover. As a result, three b...

I see the running order has already been poster - thanks!
Brace 1 got off at 8:00 AM this morning just 24 hours behind schedule. The Judges, Fred Smith and Randy Hopkins will be posting dogs-of-the day and I will try to find time to get them posted.

Re: 2003 Dodge 2500
Is it automatic or a 6 speed manual. If it's an automatic and never changed or rebuilt it is probably on it's last legs. The automatic transmissions (I think designated the 47RE) used by Dodge up until they switched to the 6 speed Eiison (SP?) automatic in about 2008 were always the weak link in the...

Re: NGSPA Sharptail Championship
Today was much better than yesterday. Several dogs had strong runs with multiple covey finds. The morning was cool and cloudy and a great time to run dogs. The first brace produced six (I think) coveys but the second brace only produced one despite strong runs by both dogs. The third produced six (a...

Re: NGSPA Sharptail Championship
Finished 8 braces today with only one dog around clean with bird contact. There were a lot of nonproductives, a couple of bird-less braces, gusty wind and nervous birds. The cover in places is pretty high and with high humidity and temps near 80 it got pretty hot on the ground. At this point, things...

Drawing produced 44 entries in the ASD last night - probably a record high for the Sharptail. Courses look great and the bird numbers appear to be high. First brace breaks away at 8:00 AM.

Re: A question on tapping a dog's head as "Fetch" is given
A number of amateur and pro field trial handlers send their dogs using the dogs name and/or touching the dog either on the head or rump instead of telling the dog to "fetch". The best explanation I have heard is using "fetch" may lead to a dog breaking in a backing situation when the other handler s...
