I have a new puppy this year. My first Dog bought with field trial competition in mind.....He turned 6 months a couple weeks ago, so I figured why not and I've been running him in puppy. Re: Some questions on Teaching Sit, Stay, Whoa etc...
Sit is one of the first things I am teaching the pup I just got. I know many people will say they don't teach it at this point or even ever to a pointing dog but for a versatile dog I find it a useful command for around the house and in the field. I just started working with my 9 wk. old pup two day...

You can enter a non broke dog in AKC puppy or derby(less than 2 years old). All adult stakes you will need a broke dog in order to stand a chance of placing for a ribbon. Peace of mind is why I want the GPS for the GSP. I've had him get lost 30 feet from me this fall when hunting one of the local areas and started to panic thinking that he could had easily made it to the road by that point. Turns out he had got himself stuck in thorns and couldn't get himself out.
