Re: Should i let me Brittany actually play with and catch a live bird
Absolutely let a young dog like that catch a bird. I would caution against using a pigeon as they are strong birds. To introduce birds to pups, and I have done well over a 100, I use a quail and pull the flight feathers from one wing. I then let the pup chase it when it runs and grab it. I want to s...

Re: French Brittany
French Brittany or American Brittany? Both are good dogs. The EB, Epagneul Breton, which is the correct name, tends to be a smaller more compact dog. They have blockier heads as a general rule and a bigger chest. Then there is the obvious difference, they can have black in their coats. Depending on t...

Being a French Brittany guy, I have 14 here right now but only own 12, I think I can reasonably say don't shoot non pointed birds. soaking in water first won't do it. It just expands the size of the kibble and can't go down. She then has to regurgitate it. While the picture isn't entirely accurate, it is of her and will give you an idea of what is going on with her. Other than this issue, and how she got here is a long and expe...

As some people know, Mona has an esophageal stricture. As a result she can not eat the same food as the rest of the dogs, Pro Plan Sport. Jumping in when you get there is usually a dominance issue. It is his bird and he thinks you are going to take it from him. Just need to work on who is the boss, and what is expected of him. Should be pretty easy to take care of.

I have a different attitude than most people. The first, what I consider real, hunting season, I don't care if my dogs ever point a bird and bust every bird. If they find a bird I shoot it. If it is just a wild flush, I will let them chase it, but not shoot it, as it is their job to find it, so if t...

In the Epagneul Breton, French Brittany world, conformation in the Ring and the Field is the same. Conformation is how a breed is defined, and Field is what their job is. Both are equally important along with temperament. All 3 things are what, in the end, defines a breed. No one of the 3 should eve...

I don't think 1 syllable makes a difference. I have Vern, Chloe Darius, Ardoise pronounced r-dwaz, Frances, Hugo, Etoile, Zipper, Finnegan and Hellion. Calling out multiple syllable names is no big deal. I like names that are not as common, although I have run into a fair amount of Chloe's.
