Re: Is Texas the poorest state for public land?

My oldest brother lives in San Antonio. I've asked him the same question. He comes up to hunt here in Minnesota twice a year (grouse and pheasant) because of the limited public hunting available in Texas. Perhaps if he developed an interest in hog hunting, he might be able to get that type of huntin...

Re: Two females shorthairs in the house?

I can only mention my youngest brother's experience with two female labs in the house. Never had a problem with either dog trying to establish dominance (other than over his wife who thought both of them were kids and babied them)

was out grouse hunting on Friday - I guess my old Lab, Chaz put up a pair but I didn't see them. My 10 MO poodle however went on a point (how weird is that) near my buddy. come to find out he was pointing a porcupine - glad he didn't get any closer.

natel, I will give MN a lot of credit for the amount of public hunting land available in SW MN. Make sure you get the WIA endorsement as it opens up more possibilities. it seems to be getting more difficult to find private land to hunt but even if you knock on five or six doors and score once, you'r...

SW MN last week

Met my oldest and youngest brother for the first of our two yearly phez/grouse hunts. Hunted half a day last Wednesday (11th) under horrendous conditions - 40 MPH winds gusting higher, light rain mixed with sleet. The next day was 30 MPH winds but at least it was sunny. I had an appointment with the...

I find it very interesting that the MN DNR, in their Fall game synopsis cautions about mistaking a wolf for coyote - especially since the wolf territory has expanded into farm country. Each Fall, I'll take off a day or two from work to hunt near the St. Cloud area and for the last two years, one of ...

took the dogs out Sunday afternoon. flushed one bird - never saw it (near Clover Valley/Two Harbors) I'm sure the area was pretty well hit opening day and Sunday morning, but I mainly wanted to introduce the pup to gunfire. He seems to have come through with flying colors. Now for some birds.

Re: NE MN grouse?

I live in a wooded area of Duluth and my wife walks the dogs early each morning. A couple of days ago the dogs put up a covey. It amazes me that over the years, there seems to at least be one surviving pair of grouse inhabiting these woods in spite of the skunks, fox, occasional coyote and housecats.

my old lab, Chaz is eating just fine but is losing weight. He had a tumor removed 3 weeks ago and it was benign so I don't know if it's the pup giving him fits or why it is he's losing weight.
