Re: Pro Plan NF (prescription formula for kidneys)

Thanks Casey. Sounds like I best just stick with it. The vet told my wife the dog could eat that food only. Nothing else. Next time I see the vet I want to ask why for my own curiosity. I really don't think this dog will be around much longer. She had some sort of seizure 2-3 weeks ago and had anoth...

Pro Plan NF (prescription formula for kidneys)

Hello all. I have an old GSP. She turned 14 on March 23rd. She still gets around ok considering but I figure she won't make it to 15. We had the vet run some tests the other day as at her last visit the vet heard a heart murmur. They gave her some heart medicine but found her kidneys in bad shape. T...

Re: How long for an EP to reach full growth?

Thanks. Sounds like around 15 months to get to their full frame potential. We were both trying to remember from our last EP and were thinking 6-9 months. Our last EP was 60lbs and was a puppy 13 years ago. That is the last puppy we have had. So it's been a while.

How long for an EP to reach full growth?

How long does it take an English Pointer to reach full size? I have a 6 month old EP that is around 42 pounds. My wife thinks he looks shrimpy compared to our last EP (granted he is now gone and was a puppy 13 years ago, so hard to remember). I think he looks normal for his age but at times he looks...

Re: Solid White GSP

As the owner of both EP's and GSP's I would say that is an EP with a bobbed tail. Looks just like an EP to me. Not trying to start a fight. That's just what I see. Probably a pretty good bird dog no matter what it is.

Pedigree names

I got my registration papers for my EP pup and need to put down the name. Is it customary to put the name of the kennel first and then the name of the dog. For example if I bought a pup from Daffy Duck Kennels and my dog is named Samuel would the name be Daffy Duck Samuel? I can call the kennel but ...

Re: When is it too cold?

I have a GSP and in the winter I just put her inside if it is cold. Granted she is potty trained and a mature dog but can hold it a long time. If I think my work hours are extended I arrange for a neighbor to let her out. The garage will work though. You can always get an electric space heater.

Re: New puppy and old dog. Advise needed!!!

I have been going thru this the past few weeks when I brought home a new 7 week EP and have a 13 yr old GSP. The few few days I was convinced the GSP was fully intending to kill my EP pup. In fact I think she would have. Over the past 3-4 weeks the GSP has come to tolerate the pup. She doesn't like ...

Re: Puppy and thunder??

I posted above about my dog with the EXTREME t-storm phobia. I got the thunder shirt and it was worthless. My dog also chewed out of his wire kennel onetime and it cost me $802 in stiches. That was when I had him all drugged up and just a couple doors down the street at my neighbors b-day party. I w...

Re: Puppy and thunder??

Just be careful. Dogs scared of t-storms can be a terrible, destructive experience. I agree with the above advice to ignore the thunder and carry on as nothing happened. I am no dog expert and am sure I did everything wrong with my dog in regards to thunder. I learned a lot about dogs, myself, life,...

Re: gun-fire question

I posted above about my gun broke GSP that did the 180 when my neighbor re-roofed his house. FWIW she has zero fear of thunder. She wears me out to go outside and hunt in the yard during thunderstorm/rain. It was the roofing nail guns that did it. I guess it was the all day noise while I was at work...

Re: gun-fire question

I don't have a ton of experience but have a story. I have a 13+ year old GSP (laying by me snoring right now). This dog is a hunter and was stellar as a young dog. No fear of guns. She would retrieve everyone's dove on some crazy dove hunts with tons of birds and shooting. Then a hail storm hit my n...

Re: Running an EP with a Mtn Bike

Thanks again for everyone's input. FWIW I did not plan to run the dog with my bike anytime soon. I am thinking about later on when he is grown. I got my last EP on a whim. Up until that point I only had experience with Weimerieners and GSPs and such I treated my EP like a GSP. That was a mistake. Th...

Running an EP with a Mtn Bike

I am picking up an EP pup in about 4 weeks. This is my second EP and I learned a lot from the first. What I learned is they like to get out and run on occasion. I have heard people using their bike to run their dogs. Just curious how this works. They would have to be attached somehow. Just not sure ...

Re: Under ground or wireless fence

I ruined my dog with a wireless fence. I stuck with him to the end as he was my best friend and I caused it but it cost me thousands of $$ and a tremendous amount of time, trouble, and worries. I have a two collar system I will let go for $125 if you are interested.

I just re-read your post. 13 weeks is young. For sone reason I was thinking over a year old. Don't stick an e-collar on a dog that young. Good luck. You will have your hands full for the next few years.

Re: Training Problems

GSP's are hard headed. I have had a couple, still have one that turned 13 in March. Gps's are very, very smart. That dog knows exactly what you are saying, he just doesn't give a #%!£ what you want. You just have to get it's attention. I am not big on e-collars but I only had to hit the button once ...

Re: Stoneface collars and leash.. thumbs up

The reason for the high vis green is that studies showed more construction workers were getting hit with the orange because they blended into the orange barricades. Has nothing to do with high vis green being brighter than high vis orange.

Thanks for the welcome. It's been a long time since I have had a pup. My GSP is over 13 and if my EP was still alive he would be well over 12. Real excited about this pup. Re: East Texas Woodcock.

I guess I should do an Internet search before posting this but haven't. I have never heard of woodcock in E. TX, or anywhere in TX. I grew up hunting in E. TX (Harrison County) and never heard of woodcock being mentioned. I don't believe there are any but will google search after this post.
