Re: Keeping a horse?
Yes... and No. When I was a kid we hunted elk just across the way (south) in the Zuni Mountains. Lots of big ones there too, in fact one of the record holders came from there a few years ago. Good turkey hunts and some monster mule deer too. They had closed the area for a number of years as a manage...

Hey Cool! When you went to hunt Elk on the Laguna Res did you hunt south of I-40? When you came to Grants the second time from Roswell did you come up from the Pie Town area or Socorro to NM 117 and then north? I ran a poll in this Forum a few years ago as I was just getting started.
It ran about 85% preference for females as being the better, more reliable hunters.

Re: Pic of litter
Depends on what you'll expect the dog to do. I just picked a pup that will be campaigned in high desert Field Trials. The dog I picked was the most pushy, bold dog of the bunch. He was noticeably bigger than the other 8 week olds. He will need to be a big going, smart, hyper-active, long winded and ...

No. I've been through the Museum with the Underground Mine you can tour. My younger brother worked the Uranium mines in the late 70's so it was really interesting. Do you have a link for the Dennis George Saddles? I've got an issue with the saddle we are using on my wife's M Fox Trotter. He's wide at the withers (nickname Diesel) and short backed. Re: Keeping a horse?
I think I can get my guys done for $70- per here too. I don't use the 70 buck guy ($35- to trim only) because my regular Farrier ($40- trim) specializes in the angles needed for gaited horses. And he agrees with me that they don't go where shoes are required. It's all soft (beach like) desert sands....

Re: Keeping a horse?
$120.00 is about $40- per horse on shoes. That's pretty dang good. I'm giving $40- per horse just for the trims, shoes is double. We trim about every 8 wks year-round. We never shoe. I had a guy tell me when I was horse shopping that he never shod his horses cause in nature they're not shod. I thoug...

Re: EP What line? best bird finders
What would you consider "overpriced" but not an exorbitant oddity? $7500 for a nine month old puppy is in my experience an extremely rare occurrence for a bird dog.
What would you say is a high price to pay for a pup that happens somewhat frequently?

That was a flippant answer and not called for. Set out a goal and the parameters you have to operate under: !) What's in your budget? a) How much travel are you willing to do? b) Shipping? Are you willing to trust the breeder to pick a puppy for you? c) How old of a puppy are you willing to deal wit...

As I first started Field Trialling with the AFTCA in N. M. I thought I would go in cheaply in case it proved to be a passing fancy. 30 degrees f and no wind. No. If it's windy and the dog is getting wet it might be a good idea, then if it gets lots colder you've got the dog covered. They make a lot of nice ones, with varying degrees of insulation. Make sure the one you buy fits up snug. Lay it in front of the dog. Stand over the...

Re: Quail Time of Day?
DO NOT hunt the Quail after about 3:00 pm! The birds must have time to covey up and if you pursue the birds after the initial flush they will be widely scattered. If they don't have time to covey up they will succumb to the cold during the night. Get there early, real early and you can catch them be...
