Re: Planting pigeons

I have used release traps of some sort but it was a long time a go. maybe 25yrs. I mush prefer to travel light and be able to present me dog with a target when I feel it is appropriate to do so. I much prefer the way the YouTube vid will explain for pointing dogs. This method I have used for planti...

Re: Dog won't focus outside

Thanks, 4dabirds, this is solid advice. I appreciate your positive comments. Do you Agee with others here that I should NEVER again throw the tennis ball for fun ( after ff is completed)?

Re: Dog won't focus outside

Again, what do you mean? Does he bring you the ball and ask for a fetch? Or, does he want the ball with him all the time?

Re: Dog won't focus outside

It almost seems that you aren't following any particular training program. I'm using Tom Dokkens retriever training. Dog is progressing very well. Inside, I can throw the tennis ball and he will bring it back everytime. Outside, I throw a dummy or tennis ball and he runs up to it, sniffs it, and th...

Dog won't focus outside

My 7.5 month lab will not focus on retrieving outside. Frozen pigeons turn him on and retrieving a dummy in the water does too. He just has no focus with tennis ball or dummies. Inside, he is abnoxiously obsessed withered the tennis ball. Is he just too young? Any advice? I've started him on the tab...

Re: What kinds if pigeons to get started with?

Well, as you can tell, I'm a newbie to this. I'll throw him some birds and see how it goes! Thanks for the advice!

Re: What kinds if pigeons to get started with?

Great Advice! I'm planning on using the Dog for Grouse hunting. I'd like to get him to point as well. I know he's not a pointing breed, but I've read that lab retrievers can be trained to point. Is this a good idea, and should I still be looking at ferals?

What kinds if pigeons to get started with?

I found close weekly auction that offers pigeons every week. I'm looking to setup a coop. Since I'm totally new to this, what type of pigeon should I keep my eyes open for? I'm gonna get a couple to use frozen first to introduce to my lab. But while I'm there, I'm keeping my eyes open to set up a co...

I'm Robb, High School Teacher from Boiling Springs, PA (Near Harrisburg.) I'm Married, and I have three young daughters ages 3,5,and 9. They keep me real busy.
