IMO taking a 6 month old on a drive is a bad idea. I would shoot some birds for him and let him cover some ground, but keep the pressure low. I would let him set the pace and learn, and keep it quiet as possible.

Wild Birds in MO
I'm currently in Missouri at Fort Leonard Wood going through an Army Engineering course. I am very exited to report that the wild population here seems to be doing well. I am hearing whistles at every pond fish, at every range I visit, and I flushed a small covey (3-5) on hole 9 of the golf course y...

If your happy with your dog, then keep hunting. If you want to fix the is bumping, and chasing then get a launcher, put a check chord on him and be in control. Let him point the bird in the launcher, and as soon as he moves launch the bird and let it go. Don't shoot a bumped bird. Once he starts res...

They naturally have the ability to hunt, point, and retrieve. If your dog is doing that for you consistently then I believe e your not missing a thing. Have fun! I do have two questions though. How close is your dog usually getting to the bird before he locks up! Has he ever caught a bird? Thanks, db

Start on the ground with a pinch collar. Apply a little pressure with the kennel command until the dog understands That the only way to release the pressure is to kennel up. After the dog is 100% on the ground, transition your ecollar into the mix. Then transition from the ground to the truck. This ...

If the man wants two pups that's his business and his money.
Why don't you show a little support to a new guy in the bird dog world .
We need more hunters and we need more bird dog people
To keep the tradition alive!
