Re: Steadiness Training Question
When I get to steadiness work, once the dog knows & thoroughly understands whoa, I walk him/her on check cord throw a dummy or docken and then command whoa and reinforce it in that order (very important). Pretty soon the dog sees the flying object and anticipates the verbal whoa to follow & begins t...

With winter pups in north country, I have rigged up a "tie out" for pup in both the garage & in the basement using an eye bolt & a short length (12 in. Approx) of light chain attached to the bottom plate in an area where the little guy cannot do too much damage. I keep the chain short so they cannot...

Cannot remember where I learned this, but it was many years ago. When a dog clamps down on anything & refuses to give it up....gently lift behind its rear flank & they will spit it out. I've used this a gazillion times without fail.

I am with Ray & Britt Guy. I always introduce pups to lead via staking out just as Britt Guy describes. Let them associate the negative experience of fighting the restriction with anything other than you. Then when they submit to the restriction & relax, you come in as the good guy & love them up. N...

As most have mentioned to this point, this is pretty normal or typical puppy behavior to nip, bite, mouth, as they play. It will also increase later as they are teething. With that said, as the puppy ages and this type of behavior continues and or gets worse, it grows into a dominance issue. In othe...
