Re: Hunting Boot Battle

I've never met a serious bird hunter that wanted his boots to have insulation. If you want to take care of your feet... don't get a pair of good boots. Get a couple pair. I rotate between Danner Pronghorns, Irish Setter somethings, and a pair of the RedHead Uplander II's. Change them up along with s...

Welcome to the site.

Where is the pup from? Breeding?

We're certainly blessed in Michigan with all of the game available to us.

Any breed will work. Just see/watch both parents and find a breeding you like.

Re: Why do we lionize wild birds?

One is a challenge... one is not... A great wild bird hunter can/will always be succesfull as a pheasant preserve... and great pheasant preserve hunter will not always be succesfull hunting wild birds.

Now trout ponds are still the real deal...

Re: First time out - going for Sharptail and Partridge in ND

Welcome to the addiction!

The best part about owning a gun dog is everything really boils down to your expectations. Just because someone hunts with more of a "meat dog" than a highly polished/finished dog doesn't mean the trips are any less fun.

Re: First time out - going for Sharptail and Partridge in ND

Not purposely hi-jacking the thread but.... I am a little confused.. after a 7 week training program your dog would bump/flush into a pigeon launcher and then the trainer would pop the bird and reward the dog for a non-point? Anyone who's been around enough dogs training knows that some dogs don't c...

Re: 1 Dog for Wild Birds

In relation to hunting behind pointing dogs... To me it all depends on how the birds are being hunted. Sticking with "field birds" - I would say it all depends on the group compisition. If one or two guys are out hunting the prairie, I don't see the need to exceed 2 dogs. If 5-6 guys are out pushing...

Greetings from Mich

Been a long time since I joined a new forum!

Me: Grouse hunter w/ a little pheasant action when the stars line up (Michigan private land or on our trips out west). Hunt behind a V and an ES.

Re: Rooster Trip in South Dakota

When we originally started traveling to areas that (luckily) wasn't easily researched via the internet... we actually would call local restaurants and gun/hunting shops. Most small towns still have "off the map" lodging available.

Re: North Dakota

Knowing general forum etiquette... and breaking the cardinal sin of having a first post involve asking a question, I promise to post a formal introductory thread tonight. Quick question (since I see I can't PM the original person who started the topic). We are making our annual trip to ND (Michigand...
