We're certainly blessed in Michigan with all of the game available to us.

Any breed will work. Just see/watch both parents and find a breeding you like.

One is a challenge... one is not... A great wild bird hunter can/will always be succesfull as a pheasant preserve... and great pheasant preserve hunter will not always be succesfull hunting wild birds.

Now trout ponds are still the real deal...

The best part about owning a gun dog is everything really boils down to your expectations. Just because someone hunts with more of a "meat dog" than a highly polished/finished dog doesn't mean the trips are any less fun.

Not purposely hi-jacking the thread but.... I am a little confused.. after a 7 week training program your dog would bump/flush into a pigeon launcher and then the trainer would pop the bird and reward the dog for a non-point? In relation to hunting behind pointing dogs... To me it all depends on how the birds are being hunted. Sticking with "field birds" - I would say it all depends on the group compisition. If one or two guys are out hunting the prairie, I don't see the need to exceed 2 dogs. If 5-6 guys are out pushing...
