Teaching sit and lay in 10 minutes?
Howdy everyone just a quick question, is it normal to be able to teach a pup not one but both of my litter mates to sit and lay in less then ten minutes I mean I say sit and they sit with out me having to touch them and I say lay and put my fist on the ground and they lay is that normal?

Re: Pass it on / pay it forward
I think this is a great deal. I'm passing on my Smartworks DVD set to a young man on the site this week. I'm not asking for money - and I know I could sell the set, but I think he'll learn a lot from it and I'll ask him to pass it on when he's finished with it as well. Thanks for starting this thre...

Re: great day with the pups.
It's a handful but very fun and worth it. People think litter mates are hard to raise really they just want to play with each other like most dogs would want to play with the neighbor dog but with litter mates they always have that other dog to play with. When I take them to a friends they play with...

Re: My littermate questions
I think you are on the right track. They are use to having a bunch of pups to sleep with and when they no longer have that they will need to learn to sleep and be by themselves some. So my advice is to just move them apart and it will be OK in a few nights. As far as playing let them play and get t...

Re: Littermate syndrome prevention.
Today my girlfriends mom took all 6 lab puppies to the vet. The vet told them they were the best breeders they have had come in and the best litter of pups they had seen yet with non looking stronger or weaker than the other. I had told them about litter mate syndrome so she decided to ask the vet a...

Re: House training help
Well you could do that if you had to but yes from the nob and long enough to where your dog can reach it with her nose or paw and nudge it for you to here. At first when your dog doesn't have it down make sure every time you let him/her out you ring it and every time they even bump it accidentally y...

Re: House training help
Where I get my labs(get them tomorrow ) they use a bell also and I already have one up. At almost 8 weeks 5 out of six of them know when they ring the bell we come open the door. It will help a lot and shouldn't take too long for your dog to catch on.

Re: Does neutering have negative affects?
Consider this, 4 million dogs are euthanized annually in the USA. That makes a pretty good case for neutering. Why is this not a issue in horses, cattle and most all other livestock.................Cj Well I don't know about you but I never see livestock rummaging through trash and roaming streets ...

Is sending dogs to a trainer worth it?
It's not time for me to send mine yet but for labs I was wondering if I get a good book and video can I train them just as well as if I would send them a way a month or two to have them trained? My dad has trained many retrievers but I was just wondering if sending them to a trainer is worth the mon...

I know many women hunters that train their own dogs - and they are excellent dog trainers and conservationists. Yes, there are fewer of them than men in the same field, but that's because it wasn't always an accepted thing for women to do.

Does neutering have negative affects?
Hi a lot of you regular GDF users already know I am getting 2 lab puppies on Friday that are 8 weeks Monday. I know it's early to be asking but I've heard about neutering changing the behavior or drive for dogs. Anyone have any information. Do you spay or neuter your hunting dogs? I don't really wan...
