2nd year hunting, dog not as good as 1st year?
My Vizsla started hunting last year he took some time but by the end of the season was doing very well. This year he seem to not understand what he is out there for. He gets excited when birds flush but has rarely pointed this season. I took him out with quail wings and he found every one so scentin...

Armsport O/U 2700 10ga., sheel shot?
I am trying to find out if I can shoot steel in this gun. Have not been able to find any info on this gun except what is posted by sellers. Anyone know about this gun?

Re: Seizures, effect on scenting?
Thanks, I took him out this morning with quail wings hidden in brush and he found all four. He does not lack scent ability. I think the strong winds where more of a factor than I thought they where. It has been in the 20s or very windy every day we went hunting.

Seizures, effect on scenting?
My Vizsla has had 2 seizures, one month apart, the second one just 3 days ago. His scenting ability appears to be is far less than it was last year. I am attributing this to his lack of training during the summer but am concerned about the effect the seizures might have had. He is now on medication ...

Size of your Wienerimer
Our female was 70 pounds and 26" at the shoulder. She was not over weight, she was tall and long. I know this is unusual for a female but I have not seen any others that matched the norm of 50 to 60 pounds and 25" max at the shoulder. Can you tell me the size of your females please. I would like to ...

Bawling like a baby in the kennel
What is the best way to stop this? Dog is male, 14 month's old. He go's in the kennel every morning before we go to work and gets out every afternoon when we get home, We never use the kennel for punishment and he gets a small treat whenever he has to go in the kennel. He bawls no matter what, if we...

New Member, sort of.
Never introduced myself but I enrolled a few months back. I live in Kansas. Been hunting since I was 12 years old, doves, pheasants, quail, whatever was in season. I had a Wienerimer for 14 years, not much for obedience but a great hunter. My wife says the obedience thing was my fault, I guess that'...

Re: pheasants and quialhunting
Had good days here in Kansas. In first 4 morning trips to public ground my 1 year old Viszla and I got in to 3 roosters and 5 coveys. One trip was a bust in a poor area so actually it was 3 trips. Better rains really helped the cover and the number of surviving chicks. Praying for good rain again th...

Dogs in field during deer season??
I don't take my dog bird hunting during deer season here in Kansas. Am I being to cautious? Yes, I do use a orange vest on the dog. I have not actually heard of a dog getting shot but the general message I get from others is not to have them in the field. Really missing out on some prime hunting tim...

Re: One year old Visla, HELP
Thanks all, I think I got some good advice here. Can you give me more than just "Mo" to go on, I would like to check out the book and DVD. The whoa issue I think is the result of whoaing him every time we crossed a street, my big worry was running him in to the traffic around here, and it was not th...

One year old Visla, HELP
I have introduced him to quail and he has no problem finding them and has tracked down wild birds on one occasion, but he has not pointed yet and appears to be losing interest. I purchased a couple of bird launchers in order to have him find specific birds and train to point and he finds them but he...
