Order a pup from Fred Rice or Friedelsheim and have it shipped..
I personally wouldn't do an AA field trial dog unless you are wanting a Big Running dog.

yeah. Had a shorthair shutdown and saw a wire hair right after we hit the pickup. Mine wasn't moving well. His could hardly use his Back legs. Hyperthermia. It was 32 and a hard rain. Sucked the heat right out of them. Hunted lots of times down to zero and no problems as long as they are moving. I'd...

Re: Choosing new pup from a litter
Yeah, I've got the boldest, most dominant female in the litter. Smartest dog I've ever had. The biggest pain in the rear also. I didn't realize I had a thousand yd dog at first and let her roll. By 4 months she was at 400 yds. At a year she was at 1000. Then had to reel her in. Nothing either one of...

I have a dog that's not a motivated eater. I've always picked up his food because I also have a very motivated eater. A dog like that doesn't care if you pick up their food. This dog would just sit and not start eating. Would skip days and hardly eat. Put ppp and victor hi pro plus down side by side...

Re: Million dollar question! Setter or gsp need some help.
Grew up with setters as a youngster. Was never a fan of long coats and cockle burrs. When I got my own place I switched to gsp's. There is so much variation in lines in all the hunting breeds. Do your research and buy the range, speed, and whatever you want. Absolutely don't buy a 1000yd dog as a be...

Re: Pointing dog breed for retirement
I have a 800yd dog and a 300yd dog. I'm comfortable with 300 yds. He circles back and keeps in touch. I can hunt all day and never have to say a word. My 800yd dog I've trained to bend on the tone. So after a few thousand tones she stays closer. Hasn't been pleasant for either one of us. Yes you can...

Re: Pointing dog breed for retirement
I'll also say as you get older you don't want a 30 yd dog. I want mine to cover the ground so I dont have too. I also don't want an 800 yd dog because you are climbing over 2 ridges to shoot a chukar that may not be there when you arrive. Lol. A 200 yd dog works for me. In open country they might hi...

Re: Pointing dog breed for retirement
Sure you can reel them back in but it isn't pleasant for you or the dog. MUCH better to buy what you want for range. Much more pleasant to have your dog range what you are comfortable with. That way you aren't hacking them in all the time. A gentleman brought in the German longhairs to Central Washi...

I've had both and have had good dogs of both sexes and not so good dogs of both sexes. Re: Pointing dog breed for retirement
I'd say you just can't generalize when talking about pointing breeds.. there is a wide range in every breed that I know of. Close working to next county, off switch to bouncing off the walls. I would highly suggest finding a kennel that breeds the type of dog that you want. What ever breed you want....

I keep two. Thats all I can live with. They camp and go places with us.
I sure wouldn't do two at the same time. Two old dogs isn't a good thing. Space them out according to how many you plan to have.
