Alabama Bird Hunters?
Google Alabama Quail Hunting Trail. Ought to give you a start. Where all the dots are is down near Union Springs. It does appear there is some up near Birmingham. Unlike out west there is not as much public land in the south, some though. Most are hunting preserve, private land types. Better than no...

My grandfather field trialled EPs and Setters. He did this off of a horse and he wanted his dogs stretching it out. Practically cantering to keep up. Covering ground I suppose. I remember hunting with him and some of his dogs would point and retrieve the bird after the shot not in the trial but on t...

Is it a western thing? Hunted birds my whole life in the southeast and have not seen that many. Is it the first gun dog of choice because of its looks or what? Seems like everyone on this site has a GSP. Feel like I'm on a GSP forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Please explain.

This is one thing I honestly never gave much thought. I just threw there butts in the back and rolled. I guess it worked out though. If I put my dog box in the back of the truck and pull up to the kennels. My dogs run straight to my truck and can't wait to get in. They are fired up because they know...

I would probably start with a "no"! Then tone, then let er rip at lowest setting and work up if necessary. Shock yourself first before you ever shock your dog with a collar. What I would want to train with a collar is not to respect the collar but to respect you. The longer I have dogs the less I li...

Got a guy trapping my farm right now. After talking to his friend today, he says he does set multiple footholds per bait site. I haven't caught up with him yet (the trapper), but I am going to see what he thinks. Most of the trappers I have met are some of the best woodsman I have come across. Don't...

I was unaware of Yotes running in packs? Seen two together but that is the most. Seen a group of pups and mom. Thinking a pack of coyotes does not happen? They are not wolves, which do run in packs. Still don't like them! Just wondering? If they did why wouldn't they set like six foot holds per bait...

I tend to like female hunting dogs. I feel I have better rapport with a female as I am male. Sounds strange but universal. Males can drive me crazy. Slow to mature. Stubborn. They spend too much time peeing on stuff and marking their territory and not hunting to me. My females are better hunters. Mo...

I neuter males, but lean my dogs towards females anyway. Meaning I prefer females, "bitches". I have yet to notice a negative side effect. I do it at appropriate time of course. I have also heard dozens say that it has negative, less drive, they get fat, etc. I tend to put all that in my country tal...

Seems to me Del Lolo is correct. Size is genetic. Nutrition will determine if he reaches that genetic potential. But having raised a lot of dogs, you seem to have two dogs on different extremes. I don't have my dogs in the box much here in the Georgia summertime, but heat should be a consideration. My dogs would eventually eat, chew, destroy it if it was made of wood.
