Re: Our Beloved GSP Miranda

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and condolences. Yes, Miranda was an exceptional dog and her passing will leave a big empty space in our lives and home for a long time. There is a new GSP out on the horizon for us. I suspect it will be sooner, rather than later.

Our Beloved GSP Miranda

There are folks who don’t understand all the pieces that have to come together for a dog to meet and exceed her potential. Randy Coffelt, Nancy Collins Coffelt and Keith and Robbi Jo Barnes Gulledge all had a hand in helping mold Miranda and get her off to a good start. They understand. As a bird do...

A month ago we lost our young Rottweiler, Cassie, only three months shy of 4 years old. Somehow she picked up a bacterial skin infection that she was not able to fight off. Quite a few years ago, one of my GSP's took a violent head-over-heels tumble while chasing a rabbit in a stubble field. How would you go about training for it? I think Miranda learned it on her own, because I sure didn't have anything to do with it. Did she figure it out because it worked for her once or twice and we bagged the bird?

I don't think it can be trained. I believe there are some dogs that have enough experience with certain types of birds and are wise enough to figure it out.
