Re: Questions about electronic fences
A regular electric fence works very well with yellow or white fencing that looks like tape, two or three strands on your barbwire fence with insulators should work. it is economical, easy to install, the dog can see it easily and the dog does not associate it with the e-collar. you also do not have...

Questions about electronic fences
Hi all, I just moved and bought a new place that has about 7.5 acres. I have a 1.5year old Brittany and I'd like to give him free run of most the property. Right now, the property perimeter is in metal t-posts and barbed wire. The fence is pretty much new. So, what I'm trying to figure out is what i...

Hey "Fun dog", how does that expanded metal floor work for you in the cold Alaska witners? Reason I ask is I put the same stuff in my loft (almost done building it) and I'm in northern Montana.Fun dog wrote:I used raised expanded metal for my floor and really like it.
Thanks.

Re: Brittany goes limp when given "kennel" command
Made me laugh, too. Our almost 2 yr old Brittany "Seven" sometimes does the same thing at night when it's time to go in his crate. All the dogs lay on, or next to our bed while we're watching TV at night. When it's time to "go to bed", sometimes Seven goes deaf and limp. The other dogs jump off the...

Brittany goes limp when given "kennel" command
Hi all, I've got a 5-month old Brittany. Really haven't worked him beyond simple obedience in the yard and home. Only commands I've really worked on with him so far is "whoa" at feeding time and "kennel" whenever we put him in the kennel. Great puppy and has been real good at his commands until this...

Re: Puppy Question
I've always taken my dogs with me hiking and on overnight pack trips. When my first pup was real young, I kept him on a check cord. My current pup will be about 6-7 months old when I have a couple overnight trips planned. But, I also bought a Alpha. I'm not sure I'd be so confident without it.

Re: Eating venison while pregnant
Our doctor said my wife had high iron levels in here blood. High being good as he said some women struggle with low iron. He "believed" this was due to the deer and elk that we eat a lot of. Said it was common in our part of the country due to similar eating habits. So, overall, he thought eating ve...

Re: How should I introduce our new pup to our cat?
I have barn carts that are very tame. My puppy grabs them by the neck and drag them around. Like someone said above, I've been very concerned, but then see the cats have numerous opportunities to leave and they don't. They just lie there and let him get another grip only to start dragging them again...

Puppy and Purina Pro Plan Sport
Hi all, I have a 10-week old Britt puppy. The breeder told us to feed him Purina Pro Plan Sport as that is what he was feeding him (in mush form) when we got him. He's now eating it dry and in kibble. Anyways, I had him at the vet the other day and they were very concerned with him getting this diet...

Another option, and this is the one I'm going to try. First, I built a coop (actually still building, but I went with the Wild Rose Plans). I plan to keep the ferals in there and use them sparingly at first. But, it is my understanding that after about 30-days in the coop, they will rehome there aft...

What is trash breaking?
Hi all,
I've seen this term used before, but not really sure what it means. I've seen it used in conjunction with behaviors the dog is exhibiting, but not wanted. I think where I've seen it is in reference to barking?
Just curious what this means. Thanks.

If you have an android smartphone check out the backcountry navigator app. It basically turns you phone into a GPS unit. Since I found this app I haven't touched my eTrex (I actually just sold it on eBay). I couldn't say if it has all the functionality of today's GPS units but it might have everyth...

Hi all, I don't know a lot about GPS units, but decided awhile back I was going to buy one for a backpacking trip I wanted to go on. I do a lot of backpacking, but never really had a need for a GPS. Re: Confused with deshedding tools
I bought a furminator for my last dog. It removed a lot of hair and still had it in the house. I think these brushes actually cut the hair. I always want to do a test and just brush one spot over and over to see if I would eventually get a bald spot, but never did. But seriously though, look at the ...

Hi all, I'm getting ready to build a coop/loft. There is a million examples and plans out there on the internet. I won't be building anything fancy. A tired dog is a good dog. Running with you is to be commended, but it's not near enough for a GSP. I just don't understand why people get high energy dogs -- dogs that need a huge amount of exercise -- and want them to be a house dog. I'm curious about this comment.
