Good discussion guys. I to come down on the side of following a standard. There are several points John has made that I take exception with but am not going to say I disagree with all of it. Several points: without a standard for each breed then I suggest we do away with breeds and call them all hun...

A round worm isn't serious. It would just be an indication that she needs worming again. Not a big deal. Puppies should be wormed evry few weeks if they are exposed to any possibility of picking up worms and on my opinion they all are. So every three months it is a good idea to worm and then do it t...

Right on Janet. All dogs of any breed should fit the standard or be eliminated. And along with that all show dogs should have to have at least a Junior Hunter title in its name or be eliminated. Now we get back to the true Dual Champion. And that is where we should all be. Getting there is going to ...

Jon, You are talking about a 12 week old pup. He is just learning what smells are and where they go. This is all part of growing up. I don't think it is something you have to teach. Your responsibility is to give the pup the opportunity to experience all of the different smells and sounds of the wor...

Boids, I'm not sure I follow just what you are trying to say. And some of the numbers seem out of line. I have to think if 8000 acres is required for a bird that doesn't travel we are in trouble. I agree! Hunting farms or preserves or whatever you want to call them are fulfilling a need so why are we trying to stop them? So what if they ban canned hunts of exotic animals and whitetails? I can't see the point of argueing whistle or voice since it is personnal preference. Personnally I think birds do not respond to the whistle like they do a voice so I like to use the whistle. Also I'm not convinced the dogs don't hear the whistle much further. You can't test the distance with a pers...
