OP... get the pup first. You will have plenty of time to evaluate which collar fits your need. The way things upgrade and improve there might be something better by the time your pup's ready for collar training.

Thanks for the suggestion all. I do have a pinch collar that I used for heeling and whoa training. Yesterday we took our normal 1+ mile walk. I went to pinch collar instead of harness. Change over to gore tex clothing or under layers... you'll be comfortable even if your soaked in 40 deg. weather. I haven't found anything applied that lasts, except tin cloth that Filson uses, but that is heavy material to wear.

You can have your dog do both, heeling and being out front on a lead (mines 6ft). I say this because I like to walk my dog and exercise him in my neighborhood when I can't get him out in a field to run. I walk him out front with a harness on and have him pull on me so there is a small amount of resi...

Good to hear you have the dog back. The old shirt/jacket left at the start spot brings back memories. A good ice chest, ice and zip lock baggies are all you need. Clean birds... leave whatever is required by game laws as proof on carcass. Place in zip locks and keep them on ice until you get home. My hunt buddies and I have done this many times. I also wouldn't keep fish very long on ice.
