Re: New From Michigan GSP Pup
I think there is a place in Chelsea, Colonial Farms, that offer some training programs for hunting dogs. Can"t remember if it is hourly one on one training or programs that they work with owners in a group setting weekly. I have never participated in these- but have heard good things about them fro...

Re: Growing Pup
Had him out for a training session at a preserve last night. At the end of the session we planted three chukars. He found all three, pointed two, and retrieved the first bird ever shot over him. Very proud.

Growing Pup
This photo is the same little guy who is pictured in my avatar, taken on January 1, just shy of five months old. He's been doing well with basic obedience and retrieving, and we're getting started with a bit of work with a trainer at the end of the month. Very excited to see what the future holds fo...

Re: fetch balls or never ...bad idea ...use only bumpers
I've heard people say that tennis balls can lead to hard-mouth. That hasn't personally been my experience.

Re: Whats your dogs name?
I've had Irish Setters named Rusty and Casey. My last dog, my first GSP, was named Penny (a nod to the Beatles...Penny Lane). Our new pup is named Briggs. I'm a big Detroit Tiger fan, and the team, prior to the 1950's, was owned by a gentleman named Walter Briggs, and back then TIger Stadium was know...

Re: New Pup
So, does he allow you on the couch? how about bed, does he give you room? I suspect he has a place at the table. :D Lol. He's been making himself comfy on the couch, and he doesn't have a place at the table, but I think he's getting used to eating his meals without eight siblings climbing over him....

Our family just welcomed Briggs to the pack on Saturday. He's getting settled in nicely. Looking forward to many years chasing grouse together in Michigan.

Re: A little about you...
Hi Folks. I'm from Milford, Michigan, and I'm picking up a GSP puppy one week from tomorrow. I've been digging through old threads for training tips as I get ready to train my new companion for grouse and woodcock hunting. Thanks to everyone for all the great info. I look forward to being part of th...
