Re: Getting Puppy Interested in Birds

I have a 7 month old GSP. When she was about 5months old, I got her some quail and threw them in front of her. She was pretty interested in them and picked them up and brought them back to me. I even released a few in a small field and she actively hunted them. I was finally able to get my hands on...

I can only say that cleaning the wound thoroughly twice every day will help. IMO I hope all goes well with your dog.

Re: Cut Toe?

A trip to the vet won't hurt. The black circle might mean a puncture with a foreign object or not. JMO of course. :)

Edit to post: I would use booties when dog is around sharp object like rocks or shale or.....

Re: Dilemma on feeding night before hunt

Hi CDN Cocker, I have tried to purchase glycocharge, but can't find a supplier who will ship to Canada. It is a product that I would love to use, though. Instead, I did some research and found the Purina studies regarding maltodextrin and sled dog performance. To renew the glycogen in the muscles, ...

Re: Dilemma on feeding night before hunt

Musher here...we like to feed as close to 24 hours before a race as possible. Dogs run best on an empty stomach. Now we do hydrate the dogs the morning of the run. Baited water to make sure they drink. Hydrate when they finish the run with some glyco charge and feed a couple hours later. Hydrate on...

There is nothing wrong in being 26 and understand that there is a hole lot of experience that has not been gain yet.
I still think or believe that the folks in the big World War 2 are the greatest generation ever lived. Food for thought on my part and my opinion of course.... :)

Re: Dilemma on feeding night before hunt

Understand that temps play a big role...Here in Idaho the temps can be brutal....Maybe ask the mushers on what their schedule is...and I will believe them. :)

What is in it for dog????

Re: Help with potty training a 10 week old GSP, PLEASE!

JMO....but maybe a visit to a vet to make sure there is no problems there. :) My GSP pup has the whole house with my two labs. So in essence, she is always in the living room playing with the labs and doesn't venture unless to drink water in the kitchen. Then ten minutes later, she goes out to potty...

Re: Dilemma on feeding night before hunt

Your dog will be sucking hind tit if he doesn’t have the energy to perform his job. Without the fuel to feed his muscles, damages can occur resulting in lameness or tearing. Do the feed at 1:30am. In the morning, before two hours to hunt, feed boil rice (high in carbohydrates) and honey. Both are ea...

I don't know if it was said...but never get angry with your dog...one second or two can cause you to go backwards in training big time. :) Our dogs are with us and it is up to us to be fair in teaching them. :)

Re: Pinch (prong) collar, choke chain, or....??

Understand that f the prong collar is use right....it is like having power steering. The dog corrects with no intervention from you. The key is having the right fit...so important. :) You can also have a thick lead that is wrap around the dog's in a cinch so that when dog pulls...it will pull on the...

Re: Whoa and wait?

Understand that these are commands are in our language not the dog.The commands should be different in voice and have different meanings so that dog doesn't get confuse on what we want. We need to be fair. Whoa or stay or something other needs to be communicated clear. :) Otherwise you will be getti...

Re: What would you do

Understand that whatever you choose...this dog with be with you for a long time. Also you know that family comes first and having a dog is a big commitment. So in choosing, it might be better to have your family there and see how dog interacts with you and family. :)
