Re: choke chain versus prong collar
There is a big difference between the inherent dangers of these two tools. Prong collars can be abused, but when used correctly they are highly effective and minimize risks to the dog's throat. Choke chains on the other hand are crazy-dangerous. Most dogs on whom they are used show damage to their ...

Our dogs are not dumb. They know how and after awhile to control that. I have seen it first hand with howlers in the pros truck and when the first shot goes off. It is like nagging to them. They know and will tolerate the pressure to know ends for their means to have a chance to get to the line. It ...

My first lab during FF was using James Spenser's method...Great memories of that for sure. I looked into my library of books and dvds and found..."Hunt 'em up!" by Arnette and Hickox; and Gun Dog..."Training Spaniels" by Kenneth Roebuck.
My two cents.

Change the environment and what I believe is having your your game vest full of scent to cause the change for them to smell. Have the vest next to their kennel. mowermandan - There are many ways to get from here to there with a dog. There is no wrong choice of tool if you use them correctly. Re: choke chain versus prong collar
I don't like a choke chain on and dog for training. they are too severe on the throat area and also should never be left on a dog. The wider prong collar with the dull spikes hitting the neck can be over used but I sure like it better than the narrow chain. I admit most of the training I do is with...

You’re getting a GSP. If you have a lab, then both will work just fine, but you are getting a GSP. These dogs are meant to run and run and run. I vote for chain link as well. Dogs can be escape artists. Invisible fence is only as good as your training and is only effective if you remember to put the collar on the dog,. Some excellent advice posted above. If you do decide to get pup, then bonding is so important. Let pup know that you are the center of the universe. They are not pups long and it would be a shame to let that pass by not enjoying it.

If you have the right shotgun, then by sighting the birds with your eyes, then the bird will come down. I find that being patient while bird flushing and using your eyes for the point of shoot and not to rush and shoot, will cause the bird to come down. When a bird flushes, concentrate on the bird w...
