I have an intermediate Gunner. It is fine for my 60 lb GSP. I think it would be fine for a dog up to 70

Sounds to me like these people were in my boat. I want a GSP and care about hunting. I couldn't care what it looked like for the most part. My criteria was spending my money in Minnesota, good bloodlines, and a breeder that cares. However my wife gave the OK for a new pup as long as it was all blac...

Maybe I'm the odd man out here but I do put a lot of stock in conformation and looks. Not above all else but it determines whether I pull the trigger or not. Just hear me out. When choosing a pup I usually start by looking for breeders that have dual championships as their goal. Then I narrow that d...

Reba that's sounds awesome but unfortunately we don't need any new ruffed grouse hunters we already have plenty and don't really want to share our hotspots with any new comers to the sport. But thanks for your interest and good luck on your sacred public hunting grounds in AZ.

Some friends and I are going to hunt Arizona the first week of January. It is going to be an unguided first time adventure with some interesting fellows. Could make for a good story if you want to join us. PM me for details.

CRP needs the support of hunters
I would not consider it a liberal program. The CRP and WREP are two of the best conservation programs this nation has ever put forth. Does it have flaws? Yes. Do some people exploit those flaws and game the system for personal gain? Yes. But without these two programs many game species would suffer ...

If you just wanted to use the ecollar function in a training situation.
If you just wanted to use the handheld as a GPS unit and you don't have a dog out.
If you are downloading GPS data points to a computer.
Those are just a few that I can think of off the top of my head.

I personally have never heard of springer rage. I have heard of spaniel rage and its association with bench breed cockers. As to how common it is that I can't comment.

Benelli Montefeltro 20 ga. I believe they have a youth and ladies stock. It is very light. Then as he grows replace with the full size stock. The only problem will be letting him use it as you will not want to give it up.

I'm not really sure why this has turned into an argument. I have had the same pair of bean boots for 25 years. During that time I have owned just about every other brand of boot on the market. I have not found a pair yet as comfortable as my bean boots. But I also wear wax cotton so what do I know.

Crackerd, I see your point in general. What didn't make sense to me is the use of the nick for conditioning FF. If you are using an ear pinch or pulling a toe you don't stop until the dog has fetched the item. That seems easy for the dog to understand...command followed by pressure until the dog com...

How many different dogs going through the same program? and how many through the trainer you were talking to ? What did the pro say ? I'm not sure how many dogs but he has been training professionally for many years (mainly labs but pointing dogs and spaniels as well). His method of FF used a serie...

Ecollar Obedience and Force Fetch
I was talking with a pro trainer yesterday about ecollar use during FF training and it got me thinking. How many of you use momentary stimulation vs continuous stimulation for various training situations? And why do you use one vs the other in that situation?

I suggest you read "The Dog's Mind" by Dr. Bruce Fogle. It is a quick read and you can go straight to the chapters on aggression. It will help you identify the source of aggression. Some sources can be dealt with by training around it some not. He discusses the exact problem you seem to be having an...

Not trying to cause trouble. I have never trialed a dog in my life. Just seeking understanding as to why someone would do that. Seems the solution is you shouldn't be able to host a trial unless you have X number of dogs. Sorry to derail the OP.

Interesting. I've never heard of that but I guess it could be an easier path. But it seems to me if all the pros are heading north in the summer wouldn't it be more advantageous to head south to compete in the summer and not to Alaska. (Not trying to be a smartass just trying to think logically abou...

I know retriever trainers in the South that go to Alaska to train in the summer because it's hot down here and they can train much longer in mild temperatures. I don't know of any that go there to enter less competitive field trails or hunt tests. Which I assume is what you are implying....

Brad,
I have watched your videos online and I like your methods but this video confused me. Why did you reward the dog when he broke and appeared to be on a tight cc? Or am I missing something?

Doesn't seem like a smart idea to let your dog tangle with a mangy coyote. And I agree even dumber to post it online.

I went to a Fred Bradley clinic, notable spaniel trainer for those not familiar, and he recommended that I use treats to train my spaniel puppy "here". The results were undeniable. I have also used treats to teach not train for all obedience, sit, heal, here from then on. Why fight a puppy when it i...

Not to size track the discussion but does anyone else feed Orijen? I'm not looking for input from those who don't use it because they think it is a ripoff. I have used it for the last five years and have been very pleased with it. Just wondering if anyone else has used it.
