Re: New 8 wk old puppy whinning all night
I would echo the advice given here, put the crate in your room and shush him when he whines/wakes you up. He should probably go out at least once between 9:30 and 4:00, at least until his bladder matures. good luck.

Re: Looking for advice on next pheasant dog
Who ever said Brittanys are lacking in stamina has never been around the breed very much. It is the farthest thing from the truth. Ditto. My Britt runs until I am afraid she'll drop. So much heart. And the best 'pet' dog I've ever had. As I write this, she is cuddled up against me on the couch, wit...

Flea season
It must be flea season. I have been using a Seresto collar on our brittany with great success, with our main concern being ticks. However, this fall our Britt has had problems with fleas. I thought the collar that I put on in spring might be beyond its effectiveness, so I bought a new one and put it...

yes, the name is Seresto though. Best flea and tick prevention I have ever used on one of my dogs. We ended up getting a collar for our cat, too. On the rare occasion I find a tick on my Britt, it is almost never attached and usually dead.

I really like wearing rubber boots, kind of like Muck boots only the last pair I bought was just Bass Pro/Red Head brand for about $35. I buy them slightly big, and add arch support inserts and wear two pairs of heavy socks. most of the places I hunt have mucky areas, and my feet stay dry and comfor...

I like to use a bell that is as small as possible. I always suspected that the bell spooks birds, but as my dog has improved with her pointing skills, I have a hard time keeping track of her in heavy cover. I believe the one I use is from Remington, makes just enough noise that I can hear where she ...

when my Brittany was just a pup she would salivate like crazy any time we got in the truck. I assume she was getting carsick, because on one or two occasions she did actually vomit. She has eventually grown out of the drooling, and riding doesn't seem to bother her as much (she probably understands ...

I have used the Seresto collar this year, and I could not be more impressed. Emergency Closure of Pheasant Hunting in NH
I just read that there is an emergency closure of state pheasant stocking sites by the New Hampshire Fish and Game for this Thursday and Friday (10/22-10/23) from 7:00 a.m. to noon. F&G usually stocks/restocks on Thursdays and Fridays, and this week is the last restock for the season. Apparently the...

Another thing you can try... toss his food on the ground by the handful, make him look for it and find it kibble by kibble. I had to do that with one of my guys. Not only does it force them to eat slower, but it gives them something to do as well. Another option is to use muffin tins... a little in...

that does kind of look like poison ivy. your dog couldn't catch it from your fiancee -- I assume the dog wasn't in the same place your fiancee got exposed, right? But the dog could have gotten it from coming into contact with something that had the poison ivy oil on it, like clothing, blankets, a ca...

I can't think of anything that would connect the two major symptoms, the lameness and the loss of consciousness, but it seems like too much of a coincidence that they would happen at the same time but be unrelated. sounds like a trip to the vet is in order.

bowel rest (fasting) but plenty of fluids. very likely due to a change in diet/high fat content in something the dog ate. check with your vet on how long before transitioning back to regular food, and then stick to it. good luck!

Urinary incontinence/leakage by spayed female
This summer, my almost 2-year-old Brittany developed some urinary incontinence. We noticed she was licking her genital area, and when she would get up, often there would be a wet spot on whatever she was lying on. We didn't think it was urine because it seemed odorless and colorless, until I saw it ...

maybe 'luring' isn't the right word, it is probably giving the coon too much credit, but I would bet that a raccoon knows that it can drown an attacker and has to be part of the reason they take to water when facing a dog or other predator. I am sure they would be just as happy if their opponent gav...

excellent video. you have a nice eye for film making. Baldur looks like a good dog, and he seems to be having a lot of fun. at what kind of ranges were you taking most of your birds?
