Re: Hello from Ohio

I live in southern Ohio too, there is a place in Greenup KY that you can pay to hunt for a reasonable price. My son and I took our GSP there, great place to train your dog.
I can see if I can find his phone number. Great ol guy, it's an old dairy farm.

Re: New to GSP

We have a female GSP in the house and wouldn't trade her for anything. But first year was pretty rough as far as learning manners in the house. She is 3 now and does a lot better nut does get excited when we have company over.

dove hunting with a gsp

I took our gsp dove hunting yesterday and was surprised how she sat with me. But she would not fetch birds, just play with a couple injured ones. Just wondering if there was a training video on doves. She is almost 2 yrs old, and is basically spoiled by the family in the house. She does shed hunt wi...

Re: GSP as a inside dog

we have a 1 year old gsp in the house, she is doing great. Although we researched breed for a couple of years before we finally decided to get one, we were still suprised about all of theyre energy. Smimming is another good way to burn some energy, ours loves the pool. For awhile we wondered if we m...

Re: using a shock collar

S2---------- It's been alluded to but not out right said With any command before you use a e-collar the dog must 100% know or understand the command , he must know with no confusion what you want him to do if not you will create a much larger problem for yourself , e-collars can be excellent tools ...

Re: using a shock collar

I didn't want to use an e collar at all on her because I didn't want to do more harm than good.She does come in the field if called but just for a second and then she's off again. And I know she is still a pup, but she doesnt obey commands unless there is a treat involved. and the road thing scares ...

using a shock collar

our 9 month old gsp is doing great in the house and is a member of the family. She likes to go everywhere with us. Only real issue is recall in the yard. In the field she never goes too far away but our yard is unfenced and a couple acres and she is starting to go near the road and will not listen t...

about the same here,sounds like your having better luck potty training though. Our female is 7 weeks, we want her to hunt sheds and some birds, we do dove hunt but she can't retreive them if I can't hit them.

Re: To Force Fetch or Not to Force Fetch?

I'd use jealousy to train fetch - another dog or a person, as you describe. As I don't train force fetch the above would be the first thing I'd try too. If it did not work then I'd either try F.F. or C.T. and I'd try C.T. first of those two as there is less that can go badly wrong when done by an i...
