Re: 9 month old GSP.......chasing on the flush

Your dog sounds like its coming along very well. Congrats on your good training. Let me first say that I am no expert and there are many ways to train stop to flush. One method is to first train whoa and then in the field unexpectedly release a pigeon in front of the dog followed by a whoa command a...

I suggest going to a vet.

Would hate to have it be something serious or something easy to treat early and spend a lot of time waiting and watching.

best of luck

Re: New Member Introduction

Hi Nolan, Welcome to the forum. Lots of experienced people to help with training for sure. You are at the right place. My suggestion regarding training would be to join a local NAVHDA group in your area or some other similar hunting dog training club. That will offer you lots of training expertise a...

Great looking pup.

Sounds like you are doing lots of great thinks with your pup and training well.

I would second the idea of joining NAVHDA. Lots of great people, lots of experience, great opportunities to create training or hunting partners, and low cost.

Best of luck to you and your pup

order of e collar commands

I'm curious.... After you have trained commands, in what order do you introduce reinforcing those commands with the e collar? For instance, some use the e collar for a kennel command, come, and whoa in that order. Others begin with whoa. Others say it doesn't matter. Really what I'm wondering is wha...

Re: Question about first season with a GSP

Beautiful dog and great story. Sound like you both are doing great. I'm certainly no expert, but I believe the best situation would be to hunt Greta alone as much as possible during her first season. Not a lot of other dogs or other hunters to complicate the learning. Just you and her and she will p...

Re: Pup is bad on leash

Here is what I have seen done at obedience classes. Begin by teaching your dog to always attend to you while on a leash. This is taught by having the dog on a choke collar (one could use a flat collar for a pup or soft dog) and a 20 ft lead. Walk around the neighborhood and when the dog is not payin...

Storing a few training pigeons and looking for advice

Hi, I will be training with pigeons this spring and I live in the city. I expect to buy 3-6 pigeons at a time and card them for training when possible to reuse them. I would like to store them in a small cage either in my garage or in a my back yard. This would not really be a pigeon coop as my city...
