Re: Effect of spaying/neutering on performance?

Back to the original question. Spay or neuter will have no effect what so ever on the dog's performance in the field. I have a 3 year old female Brittany that was spayed at 2 and her prey drive is still "over the top" according my trainer.

kirkland dog food is made by Diamond. Whether that's good or bad you be the judge. Diamond has had a number of recalls in the past but a lot of people feed it. I'm not expressing an opinion, just stating the facts.

Re: Training GSP to retrieve w/out FF

I don't like the term "force fetch". I prefer to call it "trained retrieve". With the right trainer there doesn't need to be a lot of "force" involved but at some point some force does need to be applied. If I was you I wouldn't be so negative about training the dog to retrieve. A dog that retrieves...

Been out of NSTRA a long time but thinking about doing a little again. Seven find's is a super run! I see on the NSTRA web site that the trial I told you about by Delta, CO has been cancelled. Young dogs can run and compete in NSTRA but they do need to be steady on point and retrieve to hand reasonably well. So it's really more about where your dog is at in training than their age. There are no disadvantages of sending your dog off to a trainer whether it's one month or 3 months provided you get the right trainer. And it can be money well spent. I think it's harder for us owners to have the dog gone than it is on the dog. I've sent dogs off for 2 months at a time and when they...

Give Zignature a look. All grain-free, limited ingredient formulas with no chicken. I've had my Brittany on the pork formula for a year and a half as she has allergies. She's done great on it. The pork formula is 31% protein and 18% fat.

Many guys feed the 30/20 during hunting season and then go to the 26/16 in the off season when the dog isn't being worked as hard. But it might depend on which one your dog does better on. The most common thinking is to feed once a day in the evening. Not in the morning. It gives the dog ample time to digest their food. Dogs run and work better on an empty stomach. Yeah, a 100 yd. run is virtually nothing. That wouldn't even get the dog warmed up. Running 20 to 30 minutes would be muc...
