Re: Running into leg on leash

They are two different things and any half way smart dog can tell the difference. In fact the fact that they ARE different is why it just might help - to remind the dog that that old heel in my pocket that it thinks is right is something else not required when this running deal goes on. Now, if you...

Re: Running into leg on leash

Run him on your right side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This is outside the box thinking and I am interested to know what the dog does when you try this. Odds are the dog was trained to heel pretty tight on the left and never trained for right side heeling at all. I would imagine the dog wil...

Re: Running into leg on leash

Go back to a walking heel. Start walking large figure 8's...this pattern forces the dog to pay close attention to where he is in comparison to where you are. I would walk a straight line then randomly start making figure 8's, (very large) every time he gets to close to you turn the opposite way and...

Running into leg on leash

I have an inherited 2 year old GSP. We are starting obedience quite late, and I'm running into a little something I'm not sure how to deal with. He walks well on the lead with me, does not get out in front, or pull at all. He will walk or jog next to me, matching my pace, stopping when I stop, etc. ...

Inherited grown dog training

I recently "inherited" for lack of a better term, a 2 year old GSP. It came from a family that could not keep him any longer, and he was allegedly "trained" to hunt when he was a pup, but they never took him. I would like some tips on re-training this adult dog. Here is where we're at: I got him out...

I ended up going with the Sport Dog SBC 10R and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. I bought a second one for my fiances mutt dog. Sharon he figured it out in about 15 minutes. Hasnt' barked since. I think another week and he'll be ready to keep it turned off.

Best Bark Collar

Hello. I am looking for bark limiting collar for 18 mo. old GSP. I know the old Tri-Tronics is the best, but they replaced it with a Garmin which I have read some very mixed reviews on. Is there something better out there?

Re: Citori Cracked

Happy to report that Browning 100% took care of this issue. While the service rep on the phone was a bit discouraging, they took care of it. I shipped it back to Browning (110 dollars, so I'll give a tip and say pack it yourself don't like UPS do it they charge an arm and leg). I got a postcard with...

Re: Citori Cracked

I spoke with Browning and they said they would "look" at anything under 5 years old. I asked what that meant and the rep told me that I need to ship them the gun, they'll look at the crack, and decide how much, if anything, to pay for. He said the look at the overall condition of the gun as well as ...

Citori Cracked

Anyone ever seen anything like this? This is a 14 month old Browning Citori. It's only been in the field 7 times, and has less than 2,000 rounds put through it. Cracked open last Saturday. Never been dropped, never been left outside or cold. It's stored indoors in a display style case in my den. Ful...

Re: Training Book Recommendations

mboss it sounds like you are doing better than you think. With the treats you need to phase them out at least at some point so the dog learns to obey the command because it is a command. You do not have to hurt the dog with the leash but you need to time it well and get the dog off balance. You nev...

Thank you for the advice so far. A bit of follow up from me to see if you have further thoughts. I have successfully trained a few things, by positive reward. For example, when I say kennel, he scoots directly to his crate, where he still gets a reward to this day. He is excellent in his crate, does...

Re: Stopped picking up training (frozen) birds

Frozen birds are a pile of crap. Your dog is not forced. If he's been retrieveing hard, frozen, yuky quail, they you give him a fresh shot bird, there are many dog's that won't pick up a frozen bird again. There is just no interest there in the frozen birds for him. I'm not big on frozen birds. Tha...

Stopped picking up training (frozen) birds

I recently got my GSP back from training. He was there for 2 months, is now 1 year old. The trainer did not teach force fetch, he taught it differently (if it has a specific name, I do not know it). Before I got him home he was at this point in the training: he would be on a 20 foot lead, frozen qua...

Re: Pup coming home from training

Drag was probably the wrong word. The trainer was tossing a frozen bird and sort of reeling him back in while saying fetch here. If Goose (Dog's name) dropped the bird he would bring him in without it, and start again. That said I went out to visit again today and he retrieved and delivered a bird t...
