I went to one of my favorite spots this morning with my father in-law. We were both rewarded with the best piece of bird work that my young setter has shown me, actually the best piece of work from any dog that I have ever owned. We were in an absolutely beautiful spot, close to where the opening s...

I know that you folks are excited about your dog and the season being upon us but you can either commit to the fact that year one is a training year or face two choices. Either work twice as hard to undo the mistakes or have a dog that's never fully staunch its entire life. because I am just as exci...

Re: Adventures With Tubbs
Been talking to a guy who really stressed the importance of only shooting pointed birds. Another lesson learned. I know that’s not anything new and you guys already said it but to be honest I just wanted to go hunting. He likened it to telling a kid you’ll only give him candy if he does his chores ...

Going to do some journaling tracking our rookie season. If you are so inclined feel free to check it out and any feedback is welcome. Re: Skittish Birds When Windy
Very Common. Hunting cover out of the wind is the best you can do, but high wind days are tough especially with a pointing dog. I delayed my trip to SD this week because the wind was blowing 20-40 MPH and I have the option of going next week instead... When the wind is howling go duck hunting, they...

Does this mean they should close the rest areas. It would be a long haul across Kansas if they do that.......Cj Interstate 70 runs the entire east west length of Kansas and 1000s of people from out of state use it, stop and buy gas, food, use the restroom facilities. Interstate 35 travels the entir...

You know, I live in MA and do most of my bird hunting just over the border in CT. I'd better look into this. Cripes! I’ll say this in all seriousness. Turkey season last spring was a mess. Every state did something different. Some didn’t sell out of state tags, some closed state land to the public ...

You can bring a dog in if he runs too big, what you cant do is train him to handle the heat. If I were your son that would be the first thing I would make sure. I dont see Rymans handling heat very well. This is very good advice. Although I can brag about how well my setter adjusts his range, he cle...

The very first thing I'd do is get a check cord. I found some 1/4" nylon rope that had 1/8" steel cable in the middle of it. It made a fantastic check cord for real cheap...the pup could do figure 8s around chair legs and it won't tangle. About a 10 footer would be ideal for a 9 week old. It will he...

Well said Shags. I agree 100% with CJ. Italy took a casual approach to C-19. The count today is 3000 dead …and counting! Some see 3000 simply as a number. If it's just ONE person in your family, suddenly it's much more than a number! Physical-distancing is REQUIRED - not social-distancing. If it is...

The problem with pointing dog photos is that we never capture what it is that makes every point special and exciting to see.
