Re: Taste of The Wild Dog Food Recall?
OP, why don't you just contact TOTW and ask them? https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/#contact-us I wouldn't go nuts because of some random people on the interwebs, when there isn't any other source of info about the "problem". I used to feed TOTW High Prairie ( omigosh it smelled so good!) but i...

Has anyone else been hearing rumors of Taste of The Wild dog food causing illness and death to their dogs? I just caught wind of some stuff on social media about it. Not sure what happened with my Vizsla yesterday but last night she started hobbling around not letting her back left leg touch the ground. Hi All, I'll try to summarize the best I can as my dog has been through quite the month and want to explain the backstory. My dog is a 1 1/2 and I eased her into bird hunting last year and didn't shoot over her until late November. She was doing great and seemed to be having a lot of fun and excitem...

Hi All, The past few weeks I've noticed my V's eye has looked irritated. She is also losing hair around it most likely from her scratching at it. We've been noticing a brownish discharge near the corner as well. Is this something to take her to the vet for? From reading online the discharge isn't ab...

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have advice for teaching heel? I've been struggling to teach her the command. I usually just use the leashing method, or ask her to come then say heel while guiding her next to me then praising.

Hi All, Had a few questions that I had asked a few months ago but still need some guidance on. My V has been a phenomenal dog so far and a great hunting companion. Re: 7 month old Vizsla becoming whiny
i think you are grossly underestimating the amount go mental and physical exercise a 7 month old Vizsla requires. Getting wound up around dark is the classic symptom that the needs are not being met. If you can engage the dog in training/mental and physical exertion around dark it will help throw t...

Re: 7 month old Vizsla becoming whiny
You likely did get her too soon, V's are slow to mature and getting one at 9-10 weeks is closer to ideal. My breeder wouldn't let them go home until 10 weeks of age because they tend to become too clingy and less independent when left sooner. However, a whiny Vizsla is certainly normal. Mine is qui...

Thanks Shags. Yes I actually just spoke with my fiancé about this last weekend that we cannot show reaction when she whines we simply ignore it for a minute or two and get up and walk away. Usually she quits and follows us which in turn we try and redirect her attention to something else.

Hi All, Recently my female V has seemed a lot more anxious around the apartment. She gets a bit anxious towards dark and tends to bark at nothing when she goes near the door/windows. Thanks for the responses all! I had her out this morning and flushed about a half dozen birds in front of her. And I didn't bring the gung-ho brother with this time so no shooting! It's been a pain trying to have birds hold for her to point but other than that she had a great time.

I was planning on introducing to gunfire (.22, cap gun, etc.) but not hunting over her with shotguns. Unless she reacted really well to the .22 and progressed. I cared more about getting her on birds and letting her having fun.

Last weekend, I spent working my 6mo old Vizsla alone without a firearm. I focused on trying to get her on scent and letting her do her thing. Vman is correct. She's been doing well since I first posted so seems she's settled back down. I am going to start boarding her from now on but the few reputable kennels around Fargo ND only take dogs that are 6mos+. So wasn't able to do that when I posted this. Thanks for the responses!

Hi all,
My V is almost 5 1/2 months old. The last week or so she has seemed very "whiney", jumpy, and has been barking a lot. Loud noises have been freaking her out. She hasn't really acted like this before. We had traveled quite a bit the last week so we think that may be it. Is that normal behavior?

Hi sorry if this has been posted before but I didn't see anything lately. What's the best chew toy for a 3month old puppy? I have a Vizsla and we are trying to get her to chew constructively. We have looked at Bully sticks, Himalayan dog chews, antlers, nylabone chew treats, and beef tendons.

The vet took some skin cultures and didn't see any Bacteria so not a bacterial infection. We are guessing it was an allergic reaction to something, either her medicine she was on for her UTI (Clavomax) or laundry detergent. Or like we initially thought, poison ivy.

It's normal for them not to be able to hold their bladder that long. The older the pup gets the longer they'll hold it. Try not giving water before you leave it kenneled too.
