Re: Is there a way to import BLM map data into Google Earth?

I've known folks who I must imagine think similar to you. Log off, start your vehicle, and visit the places you ask about. Want to hunt upland birds? Log off, get a shotgun. and kick brush, or get a dog. The most important lessons in life are neither taught, or learned, in a classroom or behind a co...

Re: Hot weather and exercise

It must be regional. I try not to run them when it's 100, but we're in the 90's from late May till mid September. We run in the evenings, and usually close to water, but they still make 6-8 miles over an hour or so. Arkansas summers and humidity might be rough on them, but they have no problem chasi...

Re: post hunt effects on dogs

I don't think 2 miles is much of a run. I drop the dogs off in the bottoms and they'll run with the truck. I normally do this at night, so temps are cooler. We usually make about 10 miles 3-4 times a week if not hunting. We hunt mornings normally for quail, then evenings for ducks. Dogs put in about...

I tried them last year since I couldn't get my usual lewis boots. They lasted a good hour. I taped the heck out of them, and couldn't get them to stay.

I'm going to try some of the dogbooties.com, and some I picked up at Cabelas this year.

I've got 3 Drahts. I love hunting, of all kinds. They point, retrieve, run hot rabbit tracks, tree coons if the coons lucky, blood trail, bay hogs, etc., etc.

I know most of y'all probably have little faith in a dog like these, but they amaze me every time we're out.

Re: Too early to train on wild bobwhites?

Not sure Sharon, that's why I asked. If there is a chance that young birds would be on the ground, I'll wait till later in the year. I thought they were trying to protect nesting birds by closing it to training in April and May, but on the two areas with decent populations, it's closed from April 1s...

Too early to train on wild bobwhites?

I live in Arkansas, which closes all hunting areas to training for quail from April 1st to June 1st. I have an area that has quite a few birds, but I'm worried that young birds won't be able to get away from the dogs.

Anybody got any idea?

My experience yesterday with my TT10. Flat ground with a few trees. Lost communication at 1 mile, intermittently picked up reception between 1-1.5 miles.

I was expecting hopefully 2 miles. I'd be upset too at 150 yards.

I picked up the Stevens 555 in 28 gauge over the summer. It's just a touch over 5lbs. It patterns better than my Franchi 20 or Beretta 12. My main reason for purchase was the weight. I did find it hard to get used to the weight while handling during a flush. Other than that I'm loving it. Recoil is ...

Those quail aren't ever gonna fly real good. Turn em loose, if they live very long they'll start flying better. Doubt they'll live more than a day or two.

Your just asking for trouble trying to use birds that can't fly well, unless your dog is well broke.
