Re: Running and barking at strangers?
TIMEWISE65 -- She heels but she will not maintain until released, she usually is reminded with a "heel" command and then falls into place. She has an obedient recall thus far but, she chose to ignore it when saw the fishermen down the beach, so obviously that's a concern. Both items of concern and p...

Re: Running and barking at strangers?
SOARER31 - That is what my thought was this morning as well, yesterday I didn't realize there were people on the beach but from now on, I think we'll do a sort of perimeter check while on leash, letting her see people on the beach (if there are any) while under control. CJHILLS - While it is current...

Re: Running and barking at strangers?
Thanks mnaj. I would honestly rather not use an e-collar, keeping in mind your exact point that she might associate strangers with unpleasantness, which is the exact opposite of what we want. I haven't even considered using it until this afternoon. I think part of why she does well on a leash is bec...

Running and barking at strangers?
We have an 8 month old, spayed GSP and we're having the issue of her running barking at people but, only sometimes. When we walk on a leash, she actually does really well. We can walk through a crowd of people, we regularly walk through the local university where there are people walking everywhere,...

Re: Rambunctious Puppy "attacking" me
DELAYED UPDATE FROM OP: Penny is doing well! The original post was from our first week home where my inexperience with such a young pup and her puppy crazies mixed into a problem/wake up call. In a lot of ways I didn't understand what getting a young pup was like, leading to being stressed out whic...

Rambunctious Puppy "attacking" me
Hi there, new to gundog. I recently got a 9 week old GSP. I've dealt with labs and flat-coated retriever pups in the past but they were both nearly 4 months old when I got them, so a little different. My "problem" is the 20% of the time that she decides not just to be a rambunctious puppy but she go...

Re: A little about you...
Hi there, I'm 30 and work as a part-time IT person for a living. My fiancee and I are from Montana, we grew up with dogs, I had several from the pound and recently we decided to get an active puppy to do dog sports, run and hike with us. We were tempted between a Lab and a GSP and decided on going t...
