Not unusual for a GSP to be hard mouthed. I think the best way to deal with this is to have a pro put him though a good Force Fetch program...done correctly this can resolve this problem and improve his delivery to hand...

I also don't think they would be a problem for a puppy. But once they get their permanent teeth, I say no. I have had three dogs break a tooth, that then has to be pulled, on antlers...

I know many have dogs that chew on these all the time, but I have had bad luck with them...

Get a bark collar....dogs bark for many reasons, and with a properly set back collar they will learn to stop, without a lot of pressure being applied!

I would not start the e collar until the pup is at least 6 months, even 8 months depending how receptive the pup is to training (not yet mature?). My advice would be to read up on the requirements of whichever tests or levels you want to run, then go to a test and observe. It's difficult to just read and figure out what you need to do. I agree with the others, get and learn a good retriever training program, Evan's program as noted above, is a great one.... How old is your pup. Understand that a "Puppy" at 6 months is mentally like a 3-4 year old child. Physically these pups can run, play, and bark, but mentally they are babies......
