Re: Hunting Clothing Water Proofing

DWR solution works quite well. DWR is a coating found on a lot of modern outdoor gear. It can wear off over time so when you notice the garments not performing as well as it previously had it’s time to reapply. Several companies make it. I have used Nikwax’s products and had really good success. htt...

I have a male French Brit who is 3.5 y/o. From the age of 5 months through about 12 months I would hike 5-7 miles in the foothills behind my house 5 or more days a week. He would do 2-3x my distance. We let our brittany run off leash in the foothills behind our house at around 5-6 months. An advantage of a pro trainer is that they might be more likely to use actual rattlesnakes. None of the snake avoidance classes around me actually use rattlers. They all use gopher snakes. When actual rattlesnakes are used the dog can be conditioned to avoid the scent as well.

I am in Southwest Idaho and have run into similar issues. I did rattlesnake avoidance - which helped - but to your point the snake has to be rattling before it cues the dogs trained avoidance. You could put on something like a mud river kennel cover and make small slices with a knife to accommodate the kennel couplers. If the fabric looks brittle once cut, bring it to a seamstress to overstich it to prevent the fabric from ripping or coming undone.
