Re: low blood sugar seizures
As expensive as they are diagnostics can tell us a lot and can rule out many issues. I have worked in the veterinary field for 10 years. Addison's disease , thyroid, liver and pancreases issues can all cause seizures as well as exersise excursion. I do believe diet plays a large role in a dogs overa...

Re: Thank you sweet girl
Im so sorry for your loss. I saw this shortly after losing one of my dogs and it made perfect sense. "Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, ...

Re: Help! Need advice about "one-man" dog
No one is trying to run anyone's dog down and certainly not a breed either. Springer Rage was common enough that it was named and was a rather severe problem. I haven't been closely involved for some time now and I can not comment if it has changed or not. At the time it was not connected to a certa...

Re: Help! Need advice about "one-man" dog
Any breed of dog who is product of bad breeding can exibit aggression. It is something that we have bred out of dogs for years. I have owned bull mastiffs for years. I have one who is the breed standard. She is quite, stubborn and a gentle giant, she is also a very sensitive dog and I know if need b...

Re: Help! Need advice about "one-man" dog
Feeding is a basic need and probably the most Important single act that effects bonding. Ezzy I Agree! My boyfriend and I have two dogs a bullmastiff and gsp. Very different personalities. I feed them, he spends all day with them as he works from home but the difference between our relationships wi...

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I grew up with a border collie who would chase cars due to his strong herding instinct. He was hit once he made it with minor injuries but what a traumatic experience. That being said, dogs live for routine and purpose. I love my dogs as I'm sure you love yours.I wo...

Re: GSP has something, need input
Maybe I worded that wrong. When I said I can diagnose, prescribe etc I was trying to make the point I can call how the vet is going to treat and what disgnostics they will run.All good vet techs do this. They get things ready for specific tests and or treatments so it saves time.Im very confident in ...

But maybe even stranger that owners would ask for a diagnosis on a forum. I underst...

Re: GSP has something, need input
It looks like Ring worm to me which is fungal. Despite its name, ringworm is not caused by a worm, but by a fungus. The term "ring" comes from the circular patches that can form anywhere, but are often found on a dog's head, paws, ears, and forelegs. Inflammation, scaly patches, and hair loss often ...

Its very important to find a vet you trust. I have been a vet tech for 10 years and I have worked with vets who will run tests and keep an animal with a poor diagnoises in the hospital when they should be having the quality of life talk. I have also worked for some who will ask the question how much...

Post it. Can't help with something we haven't seen. Looks like the breeder is a grouse hunter. I'd guess more of a versatile line than FT line from how you describe him. Black is more common in the versatile or import lines than in field trial lines. Vom Hesser is pure Deutsch kurzhaar His breeder ...

His breeder hunts wild birds with his dogs. The one thing he said when we picked Boris up from training was that he will find all the birds and the fastest and he has a steady point he won't creep or bump. He is very intense and has a long nose.I just worry as a novice when it comes to bird dogs.He ...

Re: Cut on pad?
Vet tech here. Pads are tricky to suture as its easy for dogs to get to them and pull sutures out. You want it to dry out. I always keep skin glue around and antiseptic scrub like clorhexadine. It can only be glued shortly after. Do not use peroxide as it will cause the skin to become necrotic. they...

Thank you! Animal photography is a hobby of mine. I know nothing about gsp lineage. American Saddlebred horses is a different story. We purchased him from Gun Dog Kennels in Vermont. They were great! I don't think he is out of anyone impressive. Any suggestions on what to look for on his papers?

A muddy/musty odor is also a common sign of yeast. A chlorhexidine based shampoo works well and bathing a few times a week.
