Re: Training off leash

You guys are nuts LOL Thanks for all the great advice! To be honest, I really wasn't planning on getting an ecollar at this stage but since he gonna grow so quick, I wanna learn all I can and be prepared for the upcoming years. Reinforcing?...ok, will remember that. Going to continue with the verbal...

Re: Training off leash

Thanks for the advice twistedoak.
He been off leash in yard of course and responds very well to "come" at this point. (working on "heel" and "whoa" also with less satisfying results...but being patient)
Will learn about/incorporate a check cord. Have seen them used a lot in videos.
Thx.

Training off leash

Have a 3 1/2 month GSP and chomping at the bit to get him off leash and outside. As per Vets instructions, he should remain homebound/yardbound till all shots in order...5 more days! I am very interested in getting an e-collar so I can train him to be off leash. I am trying to learn as much as I can...

Great thread. Learning a lot on my end still.
Since this topic is on e-collars, could someone recommend a good product to use?
Thx

Re: #2

He is a puppy and that is what puppies do/ I doubt he is eating but is chewing. Better sticks than shoes, furniture, electrical cords, handkerchiefs, and other items of clothing. I guess if it was me I wouldn't worry about it. Stopping it would be worse than the chewing. Ezzy Thx Ezzy. Yeah, you ri...

Re: #2

Got it...Thx. Not sure I would have a totally clean boot after kicking the stool  but it has shape for sure. Definitely not loose. My GSP pup is almost 13 weeks and until all his shots are up to date, he confined to as much activity and simple obedience training we can provide in the yard only...

Started researching the forum today to look for advice on healthy treats for a puppy...good ones to use for obedience training...but got sidetracked and started seeing mention of stools in various posts. Good stool, bad stool... I am assuming a good canine stool should look similar to a good human s...

Re: Sent vs outbox

Ahhh. So once messages in my outbox have been opened and read by the person I sent them too, they will then appear in the sent folder, correct?
So if someone doesn't frequent this site often, or no longer does at all...the outbox messages may never get moved to the sent folder.
Thx.

Sent vs outbox

Have pm's in my sent folder that I know have been received by others. Why do I see messages in my outbox folder that say they have been sent?...why aren't these outbox pm's simply in the sent folder if it says they've been sent?
Thx.

Breeding GSP dams

I was wondering if there is a limit on how many times breeders should breed a dam. Does it get to a point where it becomes unhealthy for the dam? Think I heard that cancer of the uterus becomes a risk. Is there any risk to the puppies if the dam is on her 4th, 5th, 6th litter?
Thx

Re: Kni-Co Alaskan Jr.

Thx oldbeek...checked with stove manufacturer and they said it should be fine. Just looking for first hand experience. Another problem I have to consider however is that the outlet of the pipe will actually be less than 4 inches because the stove pipe sections are actually telescoping so the entire ...

Kni-Co Alaskan Jr.

Anyone have experience with Kni-Co? A buddy has the Trekker and it works great. Just wondering if anyone has a stove that uses 5" pipe. I ask because my canvas tent has a 4" stove jack and I don't want to cut it. Thinking of reducing the pipe from 5" down to 4" so it can exit the tent without having...

Work

Hey,
Trying to learn about some bird hunting terms and training for a dog.
Would like to know what the terms "bird work" and "field work" mean and how they are done.
These are exercises that can be done all year, correct?
Thanks.

Re: Second thoughts

Encouraging thoughts. I actually asked myself this question today...What are GSP owners doing with their dogs that I can't do with one when it's not hunting season? I mean, in the southern tier of NY, upland birds and waterfowl are hunted October-December (If I read the DEC website correctly). So th...

Second thoughts

All I have been pretty much thinking about for the past 4 months is getting a GSP. However several breeders I spoke with will not sell to someone who doesn't hunt. And I can appreciate that...A lot of heart must go into breeding and I would never lie to a breeder just to get a dog. I am certainly no...
