Re: Need advice with 5.5 month VDD
Are you going to test this dog in any system? If so and in the JGHV system, you should pick up a 50' check cord, a 15' cordura leash, some strong pigeons, a good collar with sturdy ring, some hot dogs, and an acme 640. Get the dog some bird exposure. Get the dog tracking exposure. Easiest way is a h...

I've found that the horseback guys are very eager to help a new guy running in puppy or derby. When it comes to the broke dog stuff, they're serious and much more focused on their own thing.

I've had dogs get down to -20F in an aluminum kennel, with the dividers removed, with a blanket cover (looks like a quilted moving blanket), wrapped in a space blanket, and loosely filled with straw. They came out of there hot.

Re: Are bird hunters afraid of field trial dogs?
In the past, when we were actively involved in all of the dog sports, we were raising at least two litters a year and many were going to families that liked to hunt and had been for several years. Field trials were not something most wanted anything to do with. At that time I saw the pendulum swing...

Re: Are bird hunters afraid of field trial dogs?
The average guy should be afraid of field trial dogs because most guys do such a poor job of training their dogs, in the field and obedience, that they're better off "hunting" with a low drive bootlicking house pet. Having an obedient dog that ranges 100 yards or more and holds point is speaking a f...

I don't like the combo units because it is much easier to run multiple ecollars on a dedicated unit and corrections are much faster.

Most dogs are pets all year round and hunt for a few month. An untrained dog is a pest, a trained dog can be a joy and a source of pride, and an AKC class can be fun.
