Good feedback, thanks to all. German Longhair Pointer, that was new to me. Not taking a crate - absolutely agree. This will be easier I think since we will be looking for at least started dogs. No doubt will want to watch the dog hunt and if possible how it acts back at the house since any time the...

Re: Running with a GSP?

Running with the dog on a leash on the tarmac is different than a dog being allowed to pace itself over terrain off leash. In my own non-veterinary mind it's the same reason that walking two days in a row on a treadmill makes my knee hurt but I can walk 2x that for a week outdoors and not have it, a...

One I see in NAVHDA is handlers not knowing when to cut their losses and take the bird from the dog. If a dog retrieves the dragged duck and spits it at your feet, pick the duck up, take your 3, you can still get a prize 1. If he spits the duck at your feet and you command him to pick it up you're l...

Re: Question about JGHV, FF, JGV-USA and steady to WSF

I think the original poster is mistaken on how american dogs handle their birds. Yes, in throw down trials you will see the dogs trained to not move once point is established. This is because in most cases, pen birds do not move, they just hide in whatever bush they were stuffed into. However if yo...

The thing about the duck search is it is about the search, not about catching the duck. If the the dog swam out, caught the duck and retrieved it he would either have to do it over or get a lower score. At least that is how the rules were explained to me.......Cj The judges want to see a search. If...

30 years ago was pretty common for a field trial contender to go from 10-20,000.00. Have no idea today what they're bringing. Since there's no money, only prestige involved, seems like there would be a cap on their worth. Wouldn't there be significant stud fees that could allow some recouping of th...

They're European bred shorthairs that tend to be bigger than what you'd see out of American lines. They do seem to have more of an affinity for water than some lines of GSP's. I think they'd be too big to decoy in coyotes but don't know anything about that.

Permethrin is a Pyrethroid. Pyrethroids are a family of pesticides derived from Chrysanthemum seeds.
