Re: Dog Off Food/Vomiting

Really active dogs going off food is always scary. At about 4.5months old mine went off, vomited a lot, ate a ton of grass and vomited that too, repeatedly. Wouldn't take treats, water or regular food. Started in the morning, and took him to the emergency vet later that night when he did not improve...

Re: Dog Allergies

Is it environmental? When we first got our pup we thought my wife was allergic to him. This was during springtime. It was serious enough we considered giving him away to my mother (she would have gladly taken him). In the end it was due to the allergens he picked up on his walks/runs, especially sin...

Re: Coughing Pup

I have an 11mo old GSP. He had kennel cough around 8mo old from some of the dogs in the park. The kennel cough sounded uncongested to my ears. It was very dry/hacking with no phlegm. He's got a cough right now (that's going away) that's a little more congested/phlemgy. When he had kennel cough the e...

Re: The ever popular question...Which Breed?

I don't think you have the time. If you want both a good bird dog and a good family dog, you've got to put a lot of time into both, and you have to do it early. Garbage in/garbage out. I can only speak to GSPs as that's all my family has had. When I was three years old we had a GSP pup that my fathe...

Re: miniature German Shorthair Pointer?!

We had a truebred litter in highschool and I'm pretty sure we kept the runt of the litter. She ended up being in the 30-35lb range, but she was still a true GSP. She scrabbled up a 6ft fence more than once. I was a teen at the time and didn't believe until I saw it. And that's after I heard her scra...

Re: Raw vs. kibble

I have a GSP pup and the breeder told me to use Kirkland Adult food, which we did try for I time. I mixed in 3-4 different puppy kibbles over some time (which included freeze dried raw) and he did horrible with them. Like hosing down the grass horrible. Since that time (he's 9mo now) we were mixing ...

Re: Stomach Rash\allergy

Did they eventually fall off into her fur and need to be plucked out? If so it sounds like hives, and my GSP pup has had them. If you can confirm it's allergy related, talk to your vet about Zyrtec. I tend to give my GSP Zyrtec during the day and Benadryll at night. If your vet is fine with it, I'd ...

Anyone dealt with a grass allergy?

Still waiting for the results from the vet, but I'm pretty sure my GSP is allergic to grass or maybe pine needles (the pine trees are where the squirrels hide). Under the vet's advice we've been giving him Zyrtec or Benadryll to try to keep the hives down, as well as the redness and swelling in his ...

Re: 7 month old english pointer skinny

I have a 8.5 month GSP who is almost 50lbs. He's eating 5-6 cups daily and sees ~2.5hrs-3hrs off leash exercise a day. Most consider him 'skinny.'

Re: Success story's of keeping GSP in 6 ft fenced backyard

Out of the 8 GSPs my family has had, #4 (Dolly) who was a 30lb runt routinely jumped a 6ft fence until my father corrected her with an e-collar. I was in high school at the time and did not believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. And that's after seeing her on the wrong side of the fence. Twice....
