I do it all the time. I like walking to a shoot able area and release the dog. When grouse hunting I try to come in from the side, and walk to where the dog is looking. If the bird doesn't flush I say OK the dog will flush or start to relocate. Same on pheasents,but walk a lot closer to the dog. It ...

I do a mix of together,and alone. When just hitting the woods or pheasent cover the first time I like to hunt them together so the old dog can show the pup what it is looking for and where. Then start taking the pup out alone,and let it build its own confidence. Seems when I hunt them together later...

If waterproof is needed I would look elsewhere. I bought two pairs before I realized how short term they were waterproof. I have sent two pair back to Irish Setter because they leaked in three months or less.

For pheasents it's hard to beet a GSP! As far as range one must find the right breeder that fits your style.

Hello new to this sight,but enjoy reading some post on here so joined I did. I have three setters, and a GSP. We will be loading the camper tomorrow, and heading to southern MN to chase some pheasents.
