Garmin Pro 550+ with Explore App

Anyone using the Explore mobile app with their Garmin Pro 550 Plus? I've read online that you can sync them so the dogs' movements show up on the map in the app, but I can't find a review anywhere online as to how well it works. I'm toying with the idea of selling my Astro and picking up a Pro 550 P...

Wanted: homing pigeons (unflown)

Hi there. I'm looking for 4-6 young (unflown) pigeons to restock my loft. I'm located in Georgetown, SC and would be willing to pay to have birds shipped if I can't find any local suppliers. Please let me know if you have any birds available or happen to know of any other local source for birds I ha...

Re: Dog not "going with" me

Good point about the dogs nose...she can smell better than me for sure. I base my comment solely on the fact that I've watched her run thru the scent cone of planted birds. I also watched her do the same on a grouse this fall, right in front of me. ...but that was her first time she'd ever been in t...

Re: Dog not "going with" me

Thanks to you both for the insights. I agree with the both of your strategies, and would REALLY like to get away from the whistle. It annoys me to use it, and I'm sure anyone hunting with me feels the same. ...and to be honest, I wondered about the thought Featherfinder had about when she hears my w...

Dog not "going with" me

Hello all. I apologize if this has been addressed in another thread, but I could not find anything specific to my situation. I have a 4 year-old drop (irish setter x english pointer). She has TONS of drive, steady to wing-shot-fall, and has a mediocre nose (not sure if any of that is relevant). My p...

Re: Pigeons: How long til they pair and nest

Thanks everyone. I added a "shelf" with a 3" lip on the front. It is 44" long with two dividers, making three ~14" sections. within each section I put a plastic bowl shaped thing (bottom of a gal. milk jug) with ample nesting material. The nesting "bowl" takes up about half of each section allowing ...

Re: Pigeons: How long til they pair and nest

Thanks for pointing that out, CJ. I was building boxes last night they were more like 8" tall. So i'll adjust tonight before I install. Do the other two dimensions matter that much? As I currently have them, they are about 14" wide and 6" deep. I was basically making due with what scrap wood I had o...

Re: Pigeons: How long til they pair and nest

Thanks CJ and Switchgrass. I’ve definitely heard lots of cooing going on at night, so I think maybe they’re getting acquainted?? The guy I got them from (he gave them too me because he had too many) doesn’t typically mess around with the pigeons. But he was the only one on the plantation that day. T...

Pigeons: How long til they pair and nest

Howdy folks. I got a half-dozen adult homing pigeons from a trainer friend of mine about 6+ weeks ago. He told me he had no clue what the sexes were, but we both agreed that the laws of averages state that with six birds I should have at least one of each sex. I brought them home to my loft, have ke...
