Re: Anyone using the newest Garmin?
I went from the Alpha 100 to the 200. I like the larger screen. I like the fact that the training buttons are not locked when you lock the screen. I like the fact that you can toggle between different training button setups while the screen is locked. The maps and nav functions are cleaner. In reach...

Spot on review. I have one and I'm one of the fat guys so some of the pockets are pretty useless because they are too far back. Maybe they should have somehow made pockets removable along the straps.
Oh well.

Re: Anyone evaluate dogs in rescue programs for hunting ability?
Some of the rescue programs won't even talk to you if you say you want a dog to hunt. Others are more liberal and understand that you are just trying to get the dog to be all that it can be. So I would imagine broaching the topic with the particular rescue you deal with could be a deal breaker. As f...

My answer? Maybe it is worth it and maybe it isn't. I have a 12 year old American Brittany that I rescued at 5. A lot of good posts here. After deciding if you want a flushing or pointing dog, you go from there. For a pointer, I recommend a French Brittany, compact hard working and known for their close work. Very good dogs at home too.

I second (or third) the skid plate. Too many sharp sticks and rocks in the woods to shorten your dog's hunting season. Fits well, protects dog, plenty of ventilation, good visibility, and durable as heck. My only complaint is that the color fades a lot in a year's time.

Last post was right on. There are various definitions of started. Some breeders drag a wing around a 12 week old pup and when the pup goes for it deems the dog "started". (Just look at the gundogbreeders website for started dogs and you will see examples of this. That is BS of course. Other breeders...

Factory Stock. Nice gun but it doesn't fit. If I take off the recoil pad it fits (which to me is more like 3/4 of an inch to an inch). I agree that 1.5 inches seems too drastic.
