Re: My Fall Conundrum.......

FF's post is what I am saying. This happens to most people when the get a little older. It was a surprise to me. I have been a hunter and guide most of my life. My old dogs had thousands of bird shot over them. All of my family are hunters and deer season is a huge deal. We shoot a lot of deer for ...

Re: My Fall Conundrum.......

Not much of a challenge to shoot deer with an arrow from a modern bow. My 12 year old grand kids do it all the time. How many use a long bow or a recurve. A deer at fifty yards is nothing with a good bow. How about a spear that would be a challenge. Shooting birds with a arrow would be a challenge....

Re: My Fall Conundrum.......

One thing I have discovered is that as we get older we start to value life more. Killing everything I can is not very important to me any more. My kids, grand kids and great grand kids do most of the shooting now. I use a camera more than a gun..…..Cj Yea if I was out to "kill everything" I don't t...

Wisconsin, Midwest Tournaments.......

Anyone running any tournaments this Fall/Winter/Spring?

Thinking, if all goes well, I may try to run the Packerland Series. My goal, is to be ready for the US Open Pheasant Championship.

May not work out as I have planned, but its a plan/goal anyway!

Re: My Fall Conundrum.......

I am passionate about both. Fortunately I am retired now living on whitetail/turkey farm with decent populations of bobwhites and pheasants around, some dove hunting, good waterfowl with 1.5 hours in all directions. I fit in quite a bit of both, picking my deer hunts based on prime weather to trigg...

My Fall Conundrum.......

With the changing of the leaves and our first morning in the 30's, my Fall conundrum begins. Now, I understand the type of forum we have here and I expect some bias as it pertains to the question that I am about to ask. However, I am simply looking to hear what others views are on this dilemma. For ...

This is awesome! Was it your design or the taxidermist's?

My design idea. They pulled it off. Mostly.

Again, I'd change a few things but all in all, I am pleased with it!

New Pheasant Mount.......

Just picked this up!

Two birds from last season. I am quite happy with the way this turned out.

There are a few things that I would have had done differently but they are minor. All in all, I am very pleased with this one!

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Other Hunting, are You Done.......

Not all of us were brought up with bird dogs or in the upland world. Many of us also, participate in other forms of hunting (i.e. bow hunting big game) and many of us also have other interests (fishing, golf, cars, etc.). I guess I am curious, how many of you gave everything else up for your dogs an...

Re: Loft Plans

That's a good looking loft! How much trouble is it to clean the wire floor? I have plywood floors and easy clean unless it freeze's to hard. I used wire floor's in a few rabbit hutch's and they got super plugged up. Never did get them cleaned well. Look's like 1/2 x1 wire? Yes, 1/2" galvanized wire...

Re: Loft Plans

Not plans, but here is mine just before I finished it.

Designed and built on the fly (no plans). A few things I would do differently. However, over all, I’m happy with it.

Thunderhead has birds for sale. A couple posts below yours.........Cj Thank you, CJ. I have the ultimate in strong flying birds, young racing homers available. Forgot to mention that I'm in the SE portion of WI. Are you located up north? Was hoping to find birds within a reasonable drive of Milwauk...

Dog Boxes.......

What are everyone's favorites?

I have narrowed it down to Owen's, Mountaintop and Jones.

Any insight would be appreciated. If it helps, we live in southern Wisconsin. Our temps can go from -20 to 100.

Southern Wiscosin Hunt Tests

Does anyone have information on hunt tests in southern Wisconsin? I wouldn't mind attending one or two before Fall arrives. Not to run the dog, but to just attend myself and possibly take photographs. I want to run the dog in a few next year. However, being new to the area, I am finiding it more dif...

Training Table.......

My first post to this forum.

Just wanted to share a few images of the training table I built yesterday. Probably should have built it last year, but we have it now.

Lets just hope I can put it to good use!
