I find what he said to be very realistic. NSTRA is ran on a points system that the judge has to come up with a score for each piece of work. Horseback trials are also judged over the entirety of the brace. True the higher points win in NSTRA but it also has to be earned by the judge giving the score...

There is not a format out there that is perfect, they all have there pros and cons.What some people don't or refuse to realize about the NSTRA format is that it is the only competitive (where two dogs run heads up against each other) format with a judging criteria that has to work for ALL pointing ...

I will take a stab at my opinion on this... My thoughts are in Red! Just trying to get this straight as I'm obviously confussed. - ALL AA FT dogs only run at a huge range irregardless of where the birds are or might be. Only if the owner/handler is developing for that, if they are wanting to compete...

And by the way I never said I agreed that a NSTRA hour was like a AA hour... At least not in the Doc's world..... Flat ground, ya maybe, somewhat..... BUT I also believe it is the format and not the dogs that divide that up...... My apologies for thinking you were jumping on the Scott T. bandwagon....

I would guess this dog had some sort of medical condition or something to be getting it done at 25 and be done 2 minutes later at 27..... It is called hitting the "wall", I see it happen more at 55 minutes, or 2 and 45 minutes, as I ride more hour and 3 hour braces, but sure it can happen at 27 min...

Problem i see with events that dont take race, range, style and looks into account is the winners of these kinds of events will think a dog with lousy race/range and looks (straight tails) will want to breed dogs that look less than good. I have a buddy that is into the German dogs... but he also likes his Pointers. So he does the same with one that he does with the other..... I am not sure if the dog ever ran in a test, but from what he told me the Pointer had a water search to die for!

Looks like everyone beat me to the punch... but you have spring on the way! What better time to find a good trainer and have him or her board and run the dog for you. Sure it might cost just a little more than just a boarding, but your dog will get so much out of it!
