Re: Steadying point without pigeons?
Put a small loft in your back yard and only keep a few birds for training. Apartment dewellers in NY city have lofts on the roof of their buildings! You only need five or six birds.

I wouldn't do without a remote launcher. And I'm pretty fussy about my check cords to, just any old cord won't do for me. 30' is a bit long, 25' is about all you can handle. It should be tight woven nylon, fairly stiff and get stiffer with use, 3/8tgh smallest dia. With pup's I use 1/4" closeline 10...

About 40yrs ago I had a collar made for my Springer at a saddle shop in Kalispell, Mont. He wore that collar 12 yrs and I burried it with him when he died. Let your pup start wearing it as soon as it will fit, just leave it off and the transmitter in the house. It will condition the pup to it.

We had a few roller's and tumbler's years ago but never trained with then. Don't know how far you'd get them to come back but we liked watching them when we turned them loose. Come to think of it they won't come back to far I don't think because these birds never went far from the loft.

That sight at Sabelas looks like it slibes onto your rib and is held there with side pressure. If you get that one, I'd put a bit of silicone under it to keep it from moving till you find out if you really want it. If you do, you might glue it or better yet have a gunsmith solder it on.
